Date of Manufacture & Date of First Reg

I've assumed that my car was manufactured in 2009 given its reg date. However with awaiting my V5 form, no documents actually states its manufactured date but all show the reg date of 2009.

This came to my attention when I checked an online HPI check and it stated 2007 as manufactured date.

1) Can a Mas really sit for over 2 years unsold?
2) Should I be concerned?
3) Given my Car's price was £32,995 @ 44k, I suspect this is extortionate if the car is 2007 and not 09?

Phone Maserati UK or go to your main dealer with your vin.
They will tell you the date of delivery to the UK from Italy.

That's not a surprise Chris....Been here before with Maserati......Cars sat for year or so before being registered...Don't think you need to be concerned.

Hi Andy,

Everything is good with it although wouldn't the year impact on price though? as I think the year and mileage is just about warranted for 2009 but not for a 2007 car?

Cars are valued on when they are registered rather than built unless the time gap is excessive and/or the model/spec changed appreciably in the interim.

As previously said, I would not worry about it.

Have you checked the service book? Mine states what model year my car is so worth a look, also you can look on date stamps on seat belts, lights, other engine parts, glass etc.

It could be worth a call to the supplying dealer as it is likely that you car was a showroom car, cancelled order of an extra order which Maserati put on the dealer. If it is the first then it is probably loaded, if it is the second then anything could be possible and if it is the last option then it is probably in a predictable colour/spec etc.

As above it's the year on the plate that counts Chris so no issue...

Just really took me by surprise. Does anyone know if the spec has changed between 07-09?

2009 saw the face lift QP released....2008 was the last of your shape cars I believe but a few would have been registered in 2009...If you look on PIstonheads there are a couple of 2009 your shape QP's...Spec of the last cars will be the same as a 2007/2008 cars. When the Auto came along in I think 2007 the spec never changed until the face lift model in 2009.

Maserati are not the only marque guilty of having cars sat unsold for long periods. I know of one person who bought a new Subaru Impreza STi hatch and two years later traded it in for another new one. It later transpired that the 'new' car was actually considerably older than the car he exchanged it for, it had just been sat in a field/airfield unsold left there by the importer until someone wanted that colour/spec etc.,..

That must be gutting to find out!

Didn't Alfa do the same with a load of GTA's?

I think about 150 were registered 3 years or so after production had finished.

I guess as long as the spec has not changed and the specifics (mileage etc) are aligned with its reg date then it doesnt matter about the year it was built.

Maserati dealer give me a print out this morning stating that the car is a "Quattroporte Sport GTS A", not sure what the A means could be another variant relating to interior?

The car was manufactured in 2009 and later registered in May of that year.

So actually pretty fresh when it was registered. So does your's have the revised nose?

It doesn't have the new grill or led lights :( I suspect the facelift came in late or mid 2009?

With this said I am trying to determine the production numbers on my 4.2 GTS as I believe they could be 600-700 worldwide. This will be a big selling point given the rarity if it is part of this batch.
