Good evening all!

Has anyone on here owned a black granturismo 4.2 reg MX08FYF?

Interested to know about it’s history if it’s been owned by anyone on here.

Thanks

I don’t know it but looks like you picked up a bargain depending on history and condition etc.

That is assuming you’re the new owner?!

Yes I’m due to collect on Tuesday, the price I was very happy with given the mileage and mot history of it. Just thought I’d see if the owner was on here. Any common things to look out for with them?

Rusty sub frames! £4-5k fix but can be treated to stop the inevitable rusting

Well congrats on your purchase, if you’ve not had one before you’ll be in for a treat!

This forum has a wealth of knowledge (and banter) so you’re in the right place.

One of the main issues on some of the early models was a rattle from the variators (take a search on the forum) which could be noticed on cold start up and I think at idle in some cases, but not all have the issue and that’s mine included-touch wood!

Aside from that it’s worth getting the subframes checked as some have had issues with rust, better to have it treated assuming this one has no issue as it’s a good preventative measure.

Otherwise good servicing, discs/pads, tyres and other basics are things to check out

This will be a challenge, but see if Dick Lovett Swindon will do a Pre-Purchase Inspection. If not, try Dale at Prestige to see if he would be available but I doubt it at such short notice.

I bought a 4200 from carswithnoreservereading but rejected it after taking it down to DL and discovering a number of faults. You have the same day to reject the car and carswithnoreservereading were no issue to deal with.

Arrival at their premises is a bit disconcerting, no expense spared there, but it is what it is. A source of potentially cheap or ruinous cars, unlikely to ever be top grade.

Ive bought one car and rejected one car from them, they are honest and above board. I reckon you’ve got 50:50 chance

Thanks for all the advice. I know there will be issues with it, but then there could have been issues with any car I buy unless I pay a lot of money for a top car. The price of this one seems to be worth the risk as long as there is nothing obviously wrong.
I knew of the variators so will be asking for it to be cold when I arrive so I can check. Didn’t know about the subframes so will check for this!

Well done, I hope. You can check if the variators have been fixed by looking down the oil cap. If they look 'like a swiss watch' they've been fixed. Apparently.

that’s good to know, I assumed I had to listen from cold start but I suppose that only tells you if they are bad, not if they have been sorted. Does anyone have images of what the old/new variators look like from the oil filler?

I think there's some on Maserati Life but could be wrong. It's late ;)

Where are the common areas to check, I’ve read the top wishbone mountings but anywhere else to look?
Honestly I’m not the best person to ask, pretty sure there are some very knowledgable people on here to give advice
