Energy crisis

Pardon my being blissfully ignorant of social norms on your side of the pond and all, but… is there some sort of social stigma to having PV panels on the roof?
I’ve got a 32 panel 9.6 kW array and haven’t paid electrics in three years. Here, panels get you an easy $10,000 min markup on your house price when selling, no matter the age.
From the sentiments above it seems people in the UK consider PV panels undesirable?
Their not undesirable as such it’s just the fact that most systems over the last few years are retrofitted panels on an apex roof and often badly installed. The point I was making is that we have strict planning laws here especially on the front elevation of a property but you can just stick solar panels on your roof

i installed a 5.175 kw system grond mount 15 x modules 345w with1 x 10kw lg Batterie dc cupeld @ the end of January this year its generated 3,790kwh
358kw this month 6.25kw today in the rain so far
property consumption total to date has been 4,870kwh exported to grid 1180kwh
this has run the eelctric the hot water and most the heating 3 storey 5bed house built in the 1900s 10 dig off south with shading optimised each module currently generating 220 wattsView attachment 91188View attachment 91190View attachment 91192View attachment 91194

i installed 6.5KW optimised system east facing in feb this year 18 x365w modules and thats generated 4480kwh to date
480kwh this mounth
3.41kwh today so far each module currently producing 200 watts
That might be very efficient and a quality install. but I have to say it’s pig ugly.

Interesting and not bad for the UK climate - I have 20x250w (5,000w total) North-facing at ~35 degrees angle roof mount and this month I have generated ~700KWh or 140KWh per 1000 watt installed. I'll expect about 800KWh (160/1000) in our best month, January and about 500-550 (100-110/1000) on average in our worst months / shortest days from May-July. Today we had full sun and I'll get about 30KWh or 6/1000 installed.

You get 358/5.175= ~70KWH per 1000 watt installed on ground mount and ~73KWh per 1000 watt installed on your roof mount

But the SA electricity price is probably a bit lower so that may balance the pay-back time out a bit - I do get like for like generation/feed-in so that helps

i like this one 200 models 50kw on a industrial unit and you can't see them 15 dig pitch why they don't fit them all on industrial units
is beyond me thats where they need to be this one generates 46000-48000 kwh per annum not on the ground in fields

au contraire, my good sir. The Continental boasts are just phrased more elegantly.
Almost replied with
“What, Americans boastful? Why I never…”

Wasn’t Washington’s army the Continental Army? Did they just got lost on a day trip to France “just popping to the continent dear”. 4000 miles later “I thought you said turn right at Portsmouth”

Incontinental.

We've been moved from Green to Shell. Dunno.

Haven't got solar, wouldn't want it the way it looks now. Fugly. Wouldn't expect to get planning permission in any case. Those Tesla solar roof tiles that Peter posted probably look **** in real life but I like the idea behind it. I'd have something that didn't look ****.

Unless you have a thatched cottage, you don't really notice them.

There's always these Solar slates, made in the UK.... These look good if you're specifying a new build or stripping an existing one.

There is a better option, a Swedish company will replace your roof with a complete solar one.
So it just looks like a normal roof but it’s all made of solar panels. Looks excellent but the ROI doesn’t work unless it’s installed from the off or the roof needs replacing.
