Hi All,

Just to let you know there is a good informative piece in Classic Cars April issue that I have just read.

I had been told that there are alot of differences between the cars and that the 355 is the best overall, and this does seem still to be the case.

There is much still to be liked regarding the 348,

Anyone got any real life experiances to pass on the two cars:feedback::feedback::feedback:?

No feed back but the review in EVO from a few months ago really rated the 348 which shocked me......I like the 348...

There has been much talk on the ferrari forums regarding 348 vs 355,
the 348 seems to be gaining admirers...no direct experience from me,
but I have been in a 355f1 berlinetta a few times as a friend of mine owned
one a few years back and I loved it.

Hi Enz & Andy,

There does seem to be a bit of talk around the 348 and the late versions of it and like any car if its what you want and it suits your expectations then why not!

I shall keep the old eyes peeled!!

I hear the 348 is nowhere near as good as a 355!!

I do like the 355 spyder, a must have for me one day....

I reckon well sorted versions of either are only set to gain in desirability over the coming years, and potentially value.
Whilst the newer 355 has so much going for it in comparison, I'd probably take a lower priced 348 as a thing to look at, polish and take out on sunny days. The appeal being the near classic rawness of the older car.

In my limited knowledge I think the main difference with the 355 was 5 valves per cylinder.
There's probably much more to it than that...

Where's Adam when you need him :)

Hi Dan, I think you are right with the values going up,

The magazine had about three pages on the differences between the cars, driving, handling, feel through the wheel, engine differences etc etc

The point that was interesting there does seem to be a difference of £10,000 when comparing like for like mileage cars, the 355 the more popular and expensive

Many moons ago I was looking at getting a 348, I can't remember too many details but I certainly remember from my research that the older versions were considered largely to be dogs, with the production runs of the last year producing much better specimens. I know this is true of many cars, but it seems to have been quite pronounced with the 348.

The 355, as we know, is widely regarded as an excellent Ferrari for its time.

I don't know anything about the 348 but I did have a F355 F1 Spyder for a couple of years (around 10k miles) and it was very reliable and great fun. It had the same F1 pump issues that early maserati's had and the exhaust manafolds needed to be upgraded but otherwise it was pretty bullet proof.

Hi Nick,
You lucky man, what made you change it for the 4200, just interested in your opinion?

Cheers

Hi Robert,

I wish i could keep every car that I ever owned, but as with most people it's just not practical, with space or more importantly, financially.
I seem to keep my cars for around 2 years which gives me time to get to the point that i can let them go, knowing that i have fully appriciated them.
I was looking at a Gallardo when i boughtt my 4200 spyder but then gave in to the difference in cost and the softtop. Buying the maserati though has
enabled me to not care at all about mileage which i did in the Ferrari (10k miles is a lot of deprieciation in Ferrari). I have been looking around as we all
do for a change but i really cant see anything in a softtop that fits as well as the 4200 spder does at the moment. Its not worth much money but it
costs very little to run, apart from fuel and i pretty much drive and leave it anywhere without a care.

She does look in good nick though Nick, so I suppose you still treat her with pride, even though she is a leave anywhere car?

I certainly still try to look after her and keep her clean and waxed, I always show her at the Bristol italian car show. But i'm not afraid to leave her overnight in a ncp car park. I bought her at 19k miles and she is now showing 45k now , i think.
I cant see putting an extra 20k on her would really make that much difference in value.
