A Ferrari for < £10k Hmmm.... I have looked in the past at mondails but they were the grimest of builds, THink at £10k I'd go for a 3200 and know it would hold its own.

Adam, thought you were a proper petrol head...Doesn't matter how bad the Ferrari is you could never have a Kia over it.....

Frank I actualy like that.......Odd proportions on the Mondial but I always warnmed to iyt back in the day....

Andy the Mondial is a dog, they cost a fair amount of money to run, a cam belt service is about £1500 at a specialist, i think they are just a horrid car, for 10k i would rather have a 147 GTA.

And forever am I going to regret this..............but, I had a Mondial for a while (3.2) and I agree that the styling is odd but I really enjoyed it. If you haven't got stacks of cash but need four seats, well, I agree that there are plenty of more sensible options but surely the main attraction is the same V8 as the 328. I'm sure that those you have sampled that engine will agree that it does sound magnificent as you wind it up to the redline. Well, made me chuckle every time. Downsides are numerous apart from the styling - no cheaper to run than equivilent fezzas, weird driving position as you seem so far forward compared to the rest of the machine that you feel you're driving the pink panther mobil (mine wasn't pink mind, before you ask), dodgy 80s interior and usual lack of 2nd gear for first few miles. However, I still smile when I see one on the road (not often) and I can't say I feel the same way about the majority of cars on the road these days. This is just my very humble opinion so don't slate me too bad!

buy the KIA and in 5 years it will be worth £500 buy the fezza and in 5 years it will still be worth £5k however bad it is.

if your going to get a classic ferrari then you should buy a 308 gts/gtb or 328. I would never buy a 348 either.

In a perfect world, but having £20k+ for the initial outlay is a big ask Vs 10 grand or the cost of a Kia. Worst Ferrari ever? Possibly... but still a real Ferrari nevertheless :)

Cheap classic Ferrari, 308 GT4 takes some beating for value and performance. And it has aged REALLY well, they're looking fantastic design-wise at the moment...

A 308GT4 is a nice looking car, would definitely have one over a Mondial.

Another Ferrari dog in my opinion is the 400/412.

well a decent mondial is about 15-20k Andy, anything else is a dog, i mean come one, 10k for a Ferrari, there is a catch, look at the 308 Hammond bought on Top gear, says it all about a 10k ferrari.

No agument with that at all Adam, if it's £10k, it's £10k for a reason! And you'd spend £10k on that just to keep it running for the year!

400/412 is an odd car. So very Pininfarina, so very Italian and stylish, so very un-Ferrari. They have a huge road presence though and you know you're looking at something special when one passes you. A rare manual car is also rocket-ship fast.

When you consider it was replaced by the mind-blowingly beautiful 456, you can see how wrong the design was. Not sure the 612 really improved ion the 456 design-wise, F355 and 456 are a bit of a watershed for Ferrari. Design is too heavily influenced by aero and safety packaging nowadays.

It's all relative though isn't it and also whether you are just comparing something theoretically or in the real world of 'I've got £10k to spend on...what, a daily driver, a toy, a project.

I fell in love with the 400/412 when I saw an old boy gunning a black 400 away from a junction in rural hampshire when I woz a nipper and then again when a 412 (also black) murdered past me on the M3 leaving all in its wake. Both Mondial and 400 series are the bottom of the Ferrari pile but christ knows I'd be happy driving one compared to the soul less crud most people go for (money aside though becuase a 400 could bankrupt Bill Gates)!

Yes Markc...thats what my conundrum was all about.......live for a while with the prancing horse, or blend into the motoring blandness of a "white goods" type vehicle ( am reluctant to call it a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Baaaa....baaaaaah.......;)
