Front number plate holder

Has anyone found a better solution than the mangled metal frame that comes with the car? A rivet has popped out on the left hand side on my car I have tried replacing the rivet but it continues to pop out (might need an oversized one)

FD have an aftermarket solution that screws into the towing eye which I think is a pretty good idea. US plates are a little smaller but a square UK plate should fit.

That is a different solution than I've seen previously. Wouldn't have worked on the Alfa 156 I had as the one time I went to use the towing eye it fell off with metal rot!

Do you mean the bushing number 38?

Im not sure its exactly OEM but my bumper, being plastic, and already with holes drilled into it- I simply pushed a rubberisd "well-nut" in place in the drilled panel. Then screw the M? through it. I fashioned some alu countersink washers and used SS for the screw.
Alot cheaper than FD's solution anyway....

Just have the passenger hold it up as you go

Thanks Zep. Seems as though this popped out and someone else tried replacing with a rivet which popped out again and I replaced It with yet another rivet...

That said the metal frame part 31 looks like a piece of ****. Obviously no plate looks better (lucky Americans don't need front plates) but I do not like being on the wrong side of the law on this one

Did you mount a back plate or mounted the number plate direct to the bumper?

I put a new one on my GS, with a little plate I thought it looked better than mounting it direct to the bumper.

Although I am a little worried a square plate off centre might look a bit pants

Does anyone have any photos of what they have done?

Actually, I mounted it directly to the bumper panel but once I have it resprayed, I'll want to rethink it. But only to the extent of having a discreet buffer strip ( felt?) between the panel & plate....KISS (keep it simple & such...!) ;)

( They need to be fit from behind but offer little spacing from the panel..! https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/112004921507?chn=ps )

The OEM bracket does exactly this, it means the plate sits about 10mm off the front of the bumper.

As I like to take them out at the race track for better aerodynamics, I have a self design mount which I can remove/attach with 2 butterfly screws. I can explain by photos which can be by weekend if interested.

Thanks Tufan, your GS looks great... just been detailed? They have done a very good job, mirror shine!

I have just ordered the bush, screw and washer which is missing on one side of my bumper bracket so that it is at least secured again... only cost £5 delivered!!!

I think instead of buying a new bracket at circa £45 I will take mine off and take it to my welder to have restored, he can sandblast it straighten and put some spot welds on the 90deg bends to strengthen... That way I will give him something to do, not increase Maserati/FCA's profits and generate less waste

Edit: I just looked at the bracket again and looks like the other two mounting points have been riveted on also - I guess a previous owner or dealer did a front bumper re-spray where it was taken off and incorrectly re-fitted. Have ordered another two of those bushes and will get the screw and washer from my local nut+bolt store for pennies!
