Never won a car but I did win a tour de France bike a couple years ago in paris at the end of the tour de France, people do win these sort of things but few and far between IMO saying that if I don't have a masser by the Xmas do I would prob pop a 100notes in for a chance.. **** I might do it even if I do have one by then!

Somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind, I seem to remember that this comes under the heading of an illegal lottery. On occasion, one hears of someone trying to sell their house by selling tickets & I've got an idea that this is not allowed.

I could very well be totally incorrect about this. I was wrong once before, back in '79 it was. A Wednesday. But, I'd check if I were you.

Been past them a thousand times in my travels through the airports Loz!
Only ever bought 1 ticket and did not win.
About 3 years ago I went to a warehouse where the cars are kept,so the cars definitely existed...
the chap that showed me round had nothing to do with that side of the business,
he shared the warehouse.
Great idea about the raffle, you get a decent amount for your car (providing all the tickets are sold),
and somebody gets really lucky :D
Not sure there should be anything stopping you from doing it, but maybe worth looking into.

Think the definition is a raffle which anyone can do, there is a 100% chance of someone winning and totally legal, where as a lottery is part of the gambling rules and regs and there for you need to be licenced to hold one and the chances of someone winning are less than 75% iirc

I think these started in Dubai. I remember first seeing them in DXB airport in 1995. At the time one of the contractors I was using there was very pleased with himself having won on TWO occasions. But the odds were more in his favour in those days. Now it has blossomed into a global business and I'm sure the odds are in the "house's" favour, as usual.

As to raffling your own car, you would have to be very clear - for your protection and everyone else's - what happens if you sell fewer than the allocated 200.

Interesting idea.

I'd obviously already thought of that Dem , and was thinking of asking the hotel proprietor (possibly Ciro if the xmas do is Sharnbrook , or the manager of the hotel if in Brum to do the ticket picking

Think 200 tickets shouldn't be that hard to sell , each ticket is only the price of a tankfull of Gas , definately worth checking out .........

I'd buy a ticket but assume you would A) run the raffle on the basis that the number of tickets was maxed, presumably at equal to the value you are looking for,( 200 * 100 is only 20,000?) b) draw the raffle if all tickets were sold otherwise money back.

You would probably sell a few tickets down under; A, because we like to snap up the UK Gransports, and B, because Aussies will bet on anything.
As I once heard a gambling adict say, "I bet I could give up gambling if I wanted to".
Geoff, talking about gambling; the Pies are looking good again hey!?!

Yes they are, pretty hard for a Blues boy to get excited about though. Too many mates that are pies supporters and who willbe unbearable for 6 months. Think I'll put my money on the crows.

A chap on another forum tried to do this and as you say I think it was illegal....He got pulled for it..........I think it was on a BMW forum...

A lottery should be alright if everyones happy with the result

When theres a complaint then its dodgy.....
