Best thing for removing sticky stuff is bug and tar remover. I had to remove a load of stickers from my old Jag after taking part in Rally for Heroes 2012. I'll post a picture of the car later and you'll then believe me when I say I know all about removing sticky stuff from cars...

Bug & Tar remover is great on paintwork, but this is plastic stuff, I'm not sure how aggresive it would be on plastics..??

you can get a special spray from maplin for removing sticky labels etc. I've used it for old number plate stickers and to get the backing of wheel rims where old weights have been placed. Great stuff, not expensive, smells of lemon! but you do have to leave it on for a few mins.

Thanks Jon!

I popped round my mates house this afternoon and while I was waiting for him to answer the door I hear a couple of dog walkers pass by and the first thing the wife says to her husband was - "is that legal?"

I like the fact that these small plates seem to make the car look even wider.

Here's mine 6 digit plate, plate cut to the exact size of the mounting and numbers slightly reduced to suit...and it went through the test.

My number's six digit. I just have to get a small plate for my car. They look so much better.

How much did you trim off top/bottom/sides, is the plate actually legal, or did the tester just not notice it..??

I think the change in font size is so subtle ( and it's the standard script) he didn't notice! I'll dig out the dimensions from the invoice and report back!

Had my GTS for two weeks now and guess what, got home tonight to find front plate missing and I do remember grazing a road hum. Smaller plate and mount needed!

I would be tempted, but hate the feeling of having any doubts about the legality of anything on my car. As I drive in sports mode all the time the car draws attention to itself as it is and I don't want to give plod any excuses. In saying that, today I cut down a legitimate legal plate so that it is a small as it can be with 6 digits. It is a bit smaller height wise than the mount so that the mount will hit before the plate (which hopefully means it will stay on). Hopefully the fact that the letters are full size and legal will keep plod happier... or am I trying to fool myself into thinking that ;)
