Used to be great for importing a car from there because of the crazy tax though as they had a cut to the bone base price without tax.

About 20 years ago we ordered a MR2 roadster for the Mrs in RHD from a dealer in Denmark. Price without danish taxes was sub 10k I think, list in uk was about 18k at the time. Had it shipped to Hull, paid about £1500 tax in uk on invoice price. Result!
Your are absolutely correct. I bought my first car, a brand new Golf GTI mrk2, from VW in Denmark tax free for £5500. Was near 10k in the UK at the time.
Note the tax free Danish number plates which I drove on for 1 year before UK registration.

Bit of thread drift here for the OP, but he did bring up Denmark, which has morphed into Mk2 GTI’s!
I had 2 of them, here’s one93078

Lovely! Nice Pirelli rims. I couldn’t afford aftermarket alloys on mine at the time, would have loved to have fitted some BBS. Mind you, they would probably just have gotten nicked!
I had a front grill eyebrow lip put on mine, came home one day and the whole front assembly had been stolen... scum.

It was the MK1 GTi for me lost count how many I got through buying and selling them to fund Rallying one.
Good Times indeed :)

The MK1 Astra GTE would be worth a mint today!
It would. That black one in the pic was my mates car.

That pic was in Anglesey where he lives, we used to regularly ‘have fun’ shall we say, heading back to Manchester, but going via the A and B roads in north Wales rather than just going along the A55. Basically evo triangle territory before evo even existed! It was also before mad welsh chief constable brunstrom who hated all English in cars and bikes. Happy days indeed!

What I will say is that the cars were pretty evenly matched, although the Mk2 GTI had the edge on braking due to discs all round instead of the GTE’s rear drums which started smoking and going slightly on fire on a spirited run into Ruthin!

I also had a GTE too, before the golf, but a white one.

And to nudge the thread back on track, for the price of the lovely blue granturismo all you’d be able to get now is probably just one 35 year old Astra and one 35 year old golf! It’s a bargain!93085

You guys are insistent on keeping this thread at the top, with your car history :)
My first car was a temperamental Mk2 VW Golf 1.3 driver!

That’s the spirit, might as well join in!

Back on topic, how long do people have to buy yours before it’s traded for the strad, until it’s been inspected?

I have a couple of people interested, with a PPI being carried out on mine next week. I am hoping to collect the Strad in a week or so as the garage is waiting for all the paperwork from previous owner.

A quick update (Sorry not abut Denmark or other old cars!). A forum member has viewed the car this morning and placed a deposit so its provisionally sold. Hopefully he will introduce himself, once the transaction is complete. I will update others who wanted to view the car directly.

This first Maserati has been a lovely experience and the advice here has been great. Some great trips in this car to Snowdon, Yorkshire, Bath and Norfolk. I will really miss this car, even the kids have told me not to sell it! Excited and nervous about the Stradale!

The car has been collected today by a forum member. Sad to see (and hear) it go but I am sure the new owner will enjoy it. He will probably mention it himself in time.

I though it might be useful to add for future (prosperity), the car also had the following options: Alcantara Blue headlining, coloured seat back, bose, headlight matt black, handling pack, interior carbon pack, Trident stitched headrest & Red Anodised calipers.

I will try and console myself in the Strad!

Stunning car. I’m pleased it’ll be staying on the forum.

Happy Stradding!
