Help! Driver's door won't close

I've not long had my GTS and already suffered from the dreaded battery problems this car is known for.

So, I drove the car on Sunday night, a decent round trip up to North London and back again to Surrey with no problems. Tried starting the car on Tuesday night and couldn't get in - the battery barely had enough power to flash the indicators.

Was a little bit concerned as the previous buyer mentioned the battery was very recent and a heavy duty RAC one, and it shouldn't have died in under 48 hours.

Anyway, I jump started it using another car (a big no no apparently, but I was desperate) and it seemed to do the trick.

BUT, because the door handle electrical switch wasn't working when the battery was dead I had to use the manual button to get access to the interior, and now the door isn't latching and staying shut. It just bounces back when I try and close it.

I tried all the obvious solutions like turning the latch, spraying liberal amounts of WD40 on the area and in the door mechanism but to no avail. The manual button behind the door handle hasn't popped back out and is stuck in the 'open' position (see my really bad picture below - it's on the left).

Any pointers or anyone been in a similar position? Have searched but not really found anything too helpful. My other car seems to have blown its turbos so I have two very expensive paperweights right now and no mode of transport so any help would be much appreciated!

Check the door catch itself and make sure that it hasn't somehow become latched in the closer position, meaning it won't engage with the striker. If the open part of the latch is down you might need to manually move it to the right position to engage with the striker.

Is the battery now fully charged, if not try connected to a fully charged battery via jump leads.

I think you will have to remove the rubber bung just above the door latch, and spray your WD40 onto the mechanism from the inside.
I had this issue and it worked. It's because the manual button doesn't get used much and seizes.

Sorry to state the obvious but change that poxy battery as soon as you’re sorted as well!

Don’t charge it up and think oww it’s fine now.. It won’t be.

Exactly this, and the micro switch will also get back in sync when you’ve done a couple of restarts.

Managed to sort it in the end, I had removed the rubber bung above the door latch already and sprayed WD40 liberally but to no avail.

Thanks to Moz's post I thought I'd investigate it further, and it looked like the mechanism in the door just needed a bit of a push and thankfully the door is now fully closed and the button fully operational once more.

Now just need to see whether it needs a new battery, or whether I left the interior light on which sapped it...

What he said. Best £80ish you will ever spend on your Maserati... and a CTEK charger keeping it ship shape.
