Hi Everyone,

I've always wanted a Maserati, but after being driven around the track at Bruntingthorpe in one last Saturday, I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want one now! It was great to have a ride in one - thank you to the person on here who was at the wheel :)

My car history is:

  • VW Polo
  • VW Golf
  • Vauxhall VX220 (with some mods to make it faster and louder)
  • Alfa Romeo 156
  • Nissan Primera estate (temporary as I parked my Alfa in a ditch...)
  • Alfa Romeo JTDm 170 Veloce (current car)

Ah, you made it over from Twitter...good to see you! Do you remember details about the Maser you had a ride in on Saturday? May be able to pinpoint who it was.

Hi Techboy.

Welcome to THE Maserati Forum*. You are at the top of a very slippery and thoroughly enjoyable slope: you want one now, you'll need one later. And then you'll buy one. After that you won't stop grinning. Not ever!

What have you got your sights on? Happy hunting, and whatever questions you have then someone here will probably have the answer, so just ask.

* Other forums are available, apparently.

I think there is a large number on here who went from Alfa to Maserati, and a lot who own Masser's and Alfa's - so no doubt they will be impressed with your car history.

The VX220 I've always thought was a cracking car and a bit more interesting than the Elise in terms of looks.

Hopefully you can find the person who drove you around on here, I'm sure they'd be flattered to hear that their drive was the tipping point for you deciding to bite the bullet.

In my mind you cannot go wrong with a 4200. In terms of car for money, upkeep, durability, desire-ability and outright fun - I can't see much else out there that comes close. I say all this while my car is in for a reasonably major service which I've got to foot the bill for!

That seems to be the case. I never owned an Alfa but always lusted after a Sud, ideally the Green Cloverleaf. After that I yearned for a GTV2000 after a friend got one - still one of the prettiest cars ever made, in my opinion. The twitchings of lust returned when I looked at the Alfaporn thread earlier... Dangerous!

Yes Chrisbassett - thank you for pointing me at this forum! I don't know which car it is, but the owner had also had an Alfa Romeo Giulietta and 2 other Italian cars! I told him that I had owned a VX220 in the past and my fiancee sat in the back seat.

I was actually looking to buy an Alfa last year, but I've been doing 300-500 miles per week for the past 1.5 years, so decided that the Alfa was a more sensible option in terms of running costs - so I got that last October. I'm just about to start a new job as an SAP consultant, so as they will contribute towards the cost of the petrol, etc. I might decide to get a Maserati sooner rather than later...

Yes the VX220 was really fun to drive. I did a track day in it at Anglesey - and found it to be a totally transforming experience to drive it on a track rather than the road - great fun! I used to park it next to Porches - and people would look and point at it, rather than the more expensive Porche. Plus I had people randomly talk to me about it :) I eventually sold it to someone in Glasgow - he flew down from there to Luton Airport, to pick it up and drive back! I only sold it because I got a new job which was 4 miles from my house (instead of 20 in the previous job), so I wasn't using it enough.

One thing that really impressed me with the Maserati I went in last Saturday was how nice it was on the inside. Most Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, etc. that I have been in are far too plain and boring, but the Maserati was a really exciting place to be from the inside, as well as to look at from the outside!

Where is the nearest dealership to Milton Keynes?

Hi Techboy,

Great to see that you've made it over to the forum. Welcome.

Was your driver a skinny bald fella with glasses driving a blue car with black interior?

Emtee, yes that sounds like him. I don't know if his front seats were standard - certainly very impressive! :)

Grinzzz, ah that is miles away, but I might have to go for a visit soon!

I would strongly urge a look at the forum's very own Richard Grace (www.richardgracecars.co.uk) and Nuvola (www.nuvolalondon.com), owned by a Maserati-fanatic named Nareman. Both have enviable reputations for decency, thoroughness and an obsessive attention to detail and customer care. And if you squint just a little you'll see that MK is about half way between the two.

Depends what you want and how much you want to spend. I hovered round Lancaster for a while trying to persuade them to be realistic with their prices. The car and the deal I got from Nuvola turned out to suit me very well. Dick Lovett in Swindon is worth a look if you want something fairly new but the main thing is, if you're buying used get an independent inspection and / or a good warranty. A small investment could save a pile of heartache. And ask here - loads. I did and this forum is a goldmine of information.

Fingers crossed next year you and your car will be at Brunti as well!

I can certainly vouch for Dicky Grace - just bought my 4200 from him. I'm in Warwick, so on the way if you fancy a chat. Have had 3 Alfa's in the past and this is my second Maserati after 3 years without. Absolutely THRILLED that I'm back.
