Hi All

Great site, been looking to replace my car for a while and decided to bite the bullet and get myself a Gran Turismo 4.2, budget can't extend to the "S", have seen one I like and would like to know if anyone can recommend a good vehicle inspector to check it over for me.

I am living in Essex in the UK and the vehicle is in Lancasters in Colchester Essex

Many Thanks

Jay

Hi Jay, and welcome to the madness! Frank will be along shortly, no doubt and he usually posts the Indies we trust to do such inspections. It must be said you have hit the motherload of Maserati forums , so well done you. Have fun and get used to smiling!

Hi Jay, great decision you've just made......will post up the full list next post, not heard on any ongoing awful problems with GTs but better to spend a few hundred now than even £3k redoing the brakes!

Hi Jay and welcome to the forum.

As Parisien mentions, the GT seems to be pretty solid with no issues reported, but it's always best to be sure.

You can check some of the obvious big ticket wear and tear items yourself. Get a clutch reading, check the wheels aren't curbed and that the tyres have good (and even) treat depth, check the brake disks and pads and of course the service history.

Hope the GT checks out for you.

Wow guys, I am really impressed by the number of responses, I got my fingers burnt a few years ago on a newish Porsche Boxter that turned out to be a dog so wouldn't want to go through that again. Interesting threads on colours and interiors which makes you think as I like black exterior with black interior with red stitching to break it up but this seems to be one of the less poplar colours. Sounds like the Cream and light Tan seem to be the favored interiors.

Would be nice to get some money off the price though but not sure the dealer will move much on the price as mileage is low and could use any savings to add a few upgrades to it

I am going for my test drive on the weekend so hopefully will be ok.

cheers

Tan is quite a rare interior colour on a Granturismo, dont see many for sale. All black is not my preffered choice but if the car is used quite frequent then this is probably the most practical option, red stitching is a nice touch and ike you say, breaks up the interior nicely.

As Adam says, do be careful with colour schemes and options, best to make the right choice now than be left with a hard to sell scheme.......in a year or two...they are usually cheaper for a reason!

Has to be worth having a go though Jay. A bit of haggle margin will have been built into the ticket price, and just watch the dealer go week at the knee's if you start talking cash.

This is where the indie inspection will come in, spot things and get info from the SD system, lets you know whats what and use as leverage.

Hi Jay nice car!

As Loz says Rob's your man 100%.

Only issues I have heard with the 4.2 is the wing side repeaters fall out, front brakes are not really man enough for the job so will wear quickly and are very expensive to replace and check the rear interior trim panels for disintegration but that really is all so you should be fine.

Hmmm, I would have thought you were in a perfect position to get money off as there are a whole bunch of 4.2 GTs out there which are not shifting. If you are not critically fussy about colour combo's, then you could go see four or five and see who offers you the best deal.
