Need to get a dash cam or two, less of an issue here but useful all the same - any recommendations ?

Definitely recommend getting a dashcam.

I have a top of the range Thinkware F800 Pro (front and rear). But TBH I'm not very thrilled with it. The UI for looking at and downloading videos isn't great, it constantly wants to reformat the memory card, and for some reason thinks it knows where mobile speed check areas are and then tells me about this every 200 yards.

Nextbase seems to be the most popular brand.

They can fail quite fast. It's important to buy a recognised brand, Class 10 or better. Oh and bigger means less overwriting, which means longer lifespan.

I've had a SanDisk High Endurance SD card in my Garmin 55 for well over 5 years.
Note the high endurance bit, designed for dash cams and security cameras.

After speaking to my insurer, I decided not to make a claim. Inspite of several texts and phone calls to the TP over the last 2 weeks I've got no answer.

Yesterday at 7am my phone rang. The guy calls, apparently, he's only just seen my messages. He said he can't afford the estimate that I sent him of £1400.00. I said a mate will do it and we agree on £400.00.

The next day he only wants to pay £250.00. We finally agree on £350.00 and a photo of the completed work.

I now have the money.

Painful lesson. The fact you notified your insurer will impact on the renewal premium even though you did not make a claim.

Anyone who offers to pay me, I refuse and just go through my insurer every time. Even in no fault claims.

You do not know the identity of the third party, how trustworthy they are. With the csr make, model and reg plate your insurer can take over the claim and involve lawyers or the police if required.

daughter has had 2 non fault accidents and both times got the third party to pay cash as it's in the best interest of the third party as well, this thing of disclosing non fault claims is just a way for insurance companies to screw you over on renewals and having to disclose it for at least 3 years, sometimes 5

Just looked at those, they seem to tick most boxes
Luckily micro SD cards are easy to swallow if the police ever stop you for a motoring offence.

Is that dashcam recording sir

No officer , gulp

be worried if they pull a rubber glove out

I kept stum when I called the insurers, but I guess my number could have alerted them.
You’ll be fine if you didn’t clear security. Before that point you are somewhat anonymous even if they recorded the call and your telephone number.

If you did clear security then there’s a risk the attribute a non fault claim to you. Be sure to wait for their renewal premium and check what they’ve recorded on your details. You need to make sure they don’t record it as if you move insurers, and don’t declare something they’ve recorded, the new insurer will take out the policy, then cancel on you, and then record a cancelled policy against you which is even worse than a fault claim for all insurance for the future.
