Is my window regulator about to go bang?

For what its worth, my view on window regulators, having just replaced two, is that they wear out and they, or at least the cables, drive capstan, and possibly the plastic components that rise and fall in the metal guides (inspect them to see) need to be replaced.
Go for it Eb !
Alan, when you had the windows that wouldn’t move easily, I remember you tried lots of things to get them gliding as normal. What were your findings on the end and did you manage to get it moving better? Thanks.

Better get on with getting the regulator checked. Also something to stick on the windscreen if we're travelling through Switzerland on the way back

Not something I'm happy to attempt myself as I haven't the first idea how to dismantle car bits.

Will arrange to see Matt in due course I think. Don't want to try it out in case it goes bang and you can bet it'll be chucking it down from now on....

Sorry you've got this Eb. Best to keep the window closed until you can get to Matt.

Mowlas, You were tremendously helpful. Thank you. 104747
The learning points are:
Preventative maintenance. Easy. Open window and spray the guides with silicon oil - its slippery and does not have an odour.
When it jams.
You will have to dismantle it to inspect it. Don't try touching the switch to move it. Expect to replace everything I listed above. Whilst the glass is out, clear the slots it moves through with your trim removal tool, then use lots of silicon oil spray.

Those are the really important points. Happy to explain in more detail. Just ask in this thread.

To close the thread...

The decision to not touch the window since the initial problem presented was prescient with the downpours we had yesterday.

A pleasant visit to SportsItalia this morning confirmed it was now an ex-regulator as the window wouldn't budge when activated.

A new regulator was installed while I had a couple of cups of coffee and made use of the SI office and wifi for work.

That's 3 out of the 4 regulators I've now replaced.

Wind it all the way down, then hold the button down for >5 seconds. Wind all the way up and hold the button up for >5 seconds.

That might fix it
