It is better y you will read a lot of reviews regarding the cars you want. You might as well read from a car owner's perspective so that it will not be bias. It is smart to take effort in to researching the best and most suitable car for you.

Just read the tyre review in November EVO and the winner was Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. I have always run Michelin Pilot Sport (finished 3rd) which I have found to be very good. The one thing I thought interesting in the article was the statement that the Michelin "was easiest the noisiest of all the tyres" and I have always found the tyre noise in the Maser to be pretty intrusive.

As I am due four tyres pretty soon I am thinking of changing to Goodyear (which are also a tad cheaper); has anyone any experience of running them?

Finally, Frank, I am going to do a wheel refurb at the same time; know anyone in NI that does a good job?

Cheers

Ran them a few years ago on my old 4200 coming from the Pilot Sports and there was a very noticeable difference. The Eagles were quieter but more importantly had much better wet weather grip, they gave so much more confidence. I also think from memory that the Eagles did not wear as quickly as the Pilot Sports. Hope this helps.

Fantastic, thanks for the insight. That confirms it then, will make the switch subject to supply etc

Cheers

No worries, I would have put them on the GTS but couldn't find any in stock in the right size so hope you have better luck.

That's an interesting option to Pirelli P Zero's, or P Zero Rosso's, which I usually use and find very good with little or no road noise.

Shane, have a look at Camskills over in Whitehaven. You can order on-line and get them delivered to where you want to get them fitted. Very competitive pricing.

I have used camskill before and find them very competitive with a great service and tend to be cheaper than blackcircles .

Make sure you check the markings correctly and get the Maserati or Ferrari tyre rather than the generic P Zero.

Second that. (actually third it as it followed on from Benny's).

Anyway, definitely check the exact spec against the stated "OE / Factory vehicle fitments". Camskill only seems to have a generic PZero and Ferrari spec at the moment (for rears anyway), but worth giving them a call (01946 518202).

As an aside I actually have no idea what the actual difference is between Ferrari, Maserati or any other spec of tyre, but I do think it probably matters. Can anyone fill me in?

My understanding is that sometimes the car makers work with tyre makers to tune tyre to the car. Slight modifications in compound of construction.
This is (again apparently) why 'recommended' tyres can sometimes perform very differently from the original fits.

I've never had a new car, so I've never had original fit tyres.

I have no qualms at all about not using the manufacturer specific tyre, but each to their own :)
