And we thought Maserati servicing is expensive
Ordered a new kitchen and they wanted over £4k to fit it!
I nearly fell over.
Anyway I've got one to do it for £2100 and he was recommended by our neighbour and he lives a few houses away so he isn't a crook.

I think he's added in the , he has a nice car on the drive price. obviously I don't know what size your kitchen is or to what extent your having done, fitment type etc. but this does sound expensive to me.
Break it down with how many guys and how long on site and work it out from there.
although sometimes its worth the extra few hundred for it to be done right so if he comes from a recommendation then could be worth it.

Going through the same pain at the moment too.

We are having the utility remove (by me) so will end up with a large L shaped kitchen/diner with the old dining room being used as a TV/second lounge area. The utility has been moved to the garage and I am slowly moving all the cupboards out there.

If I had builders do all 3 rooms I would have been looking at £18k

Ive done it myself plus used local tradesmen at £160 cash a day for the plastering, floor tiling, plumbing and wiring and Ill come in at £6k

Thats £12k to put into cars...so it is Maserati related in a roundabout sorta way :)

As you can see, the plumber who turned up I was suspicious about!

I use the base rule of good trades men want to be earning 1k a week there about. £160 sounds like you've found some fair priced trades.
hence at £2100 above there talking at over a full week for 2guys to fit a supplied kitchen, cant think of many kitchens that take this long to fit.

The plasterer who is in today, is £160 a day and someone I know and trust, he is excellent. With materials, it will come in at £200 a day. The Sparky did a day and a half and cost £230 who I got of rated people. He was Romanian and a thoroughly nice chap. Turned up late by two hours but did call ahead and worked from 11am to 11pm without stopping then came back the next day for 3hrs....driving from East London to Chichester both days. The plumber who was again £160 for a days work is a mate and neighbour. Again, with materials, came in at £200.

I am a big believer in local trades and build a relationship with. The only risk was the sparky but he turned out very, very good.

I suppose as I know about building, I watch them and they all know nothing will get past me.

I spent 2 years of weekends doing a self build. ill get round to finishing it soon lol

I am 6 weeks in and today all the building work will be done. Next is the floor (£2k fitted, porcelain tiles...anyone on here a tiler?) so I am on track for a 3 month project finish.

Car is kept in garage so he didn't see that. It was Kitchen supplier that quoted £4k so that's why I looked elsewhere and got it for £2100 which I was pleased at. So for the cost of their fitter I've got the kitchen fitted, electricals, plumbing and quartz worktops all done!
Result.

That’s a really good price for all that work! In my old property I was quoted similar using the kitchen supplier. I ended up using independents to fit it, they did a good job. The kitchen suppliers are money grabbers whether they see your car or not! Good job!

Quick turn around that ! Are you enjoying it ?
I did do most of it myself hence the long time.

My late father in law had a company in who advertised in the back of the daily mail to change his bath and fit a shower, this was 15 years ago

They removed the bath , replaced it with a shower tray of the same footprint , fitted an electric shower , waterproof wall boards over the tiles, a shower curtain , seat and some really **** cushion floor.
The whole bathroom isn't 7ft square

it looked bad, no tiling, still got the 1970s toilet and sink

when he died I was helping my wife sort through some paperwork when I found the invoice, can't remember the exact figure but it was just short of £7,000.

recommendation is the only way to go, if he'd asked me I could've found him somebody to refurbish the whole bathroom for 1/2 that, they weren't even employed by the company, like pimlico plumbers it's just an office and they ring up whoever they can find to do it

My brother fits kitchens (amongst other woodwork stuff) and he absolutely hates doing them.
They're fine (he says) if the floor and walls are straight, but if they are not they're an absolute ball ache.

He always says whatever he charges is never enough!

Yeah it really is a minefield. with regard tiling I had someone I worked with when I was doing shopfitting about 10 years ago come and do mine, cost me an arm and a leg as I had to put him up in a local hotel as he was from Burnley ! was worth it knowing the job would be done right tho.

Quite probably. He used to look after my Alfas. Can ping him if you're in need

I guess it depends if “fitting a kitchen” includes floors, tiling, plumbing, electrics and decorating or just the cabinets / worktops etc.

I have just had 65 square meters of kitchen floor tiles ripped up, made good and refitted with electric underfloor heating and it’s a 12k bill ! That does include decorating as well but even so !

Mostly covered by insurance but I got 3 quotes from local trades and they were all roughly the same.

It's just to fit cabinets and cookers etc.

It all depends on how big the kitchen is, I fit the occasional kitchen, and will do everything except the electrics. I have seen some absolute horrors in my time, and the old adage 'you get what you pay for' is certainly true, @conaero £160/day for a plumber, well done, certainly wouldn't get me for that price, even for cash, plasterers, chippies maybe.
