.... Maser'd for the very first time.

Who remembers their very first ...err ...umm ride in a Maserati? Where & with whom did you break your Maser cherry?

My first experience was on the back seats of a rather smart Ghibli in '98. Thankfully, the owner and his son were in the front ;)

The Father of a pal at Uni. was visiting with a recent import. The opportunity for a quick blast has been remembered fondly ever since. In part, because of what happened here:

Waiting patiently at the lights we were joined by a beamer of some sort. Who clearly intended to muscle past before the bottleneck. Who also hadn't a clue what he'd stopped next to. With engine revving the beamer set off and was doing well.

Having said "watch this" the father engaged warp factor nine, the turbos spooled, and the beamer was history. For a fleeting moment, from my vantage point looking out the back window, I caught the look horror on the other guys face. Brilliant.

It was a test drive for me on one I was looking to buy.

It was a black 3200 GTM with grey leather on a 2001 plate. I turned up with bloody great Cat boots on and had to get in the back and my boots did not fit in the passenger footwell.

All very embarrassing.

Didn't buy the car, was too tatty and as I was a newbie, no forum to back me up, ran away scared!

Test drive as well...

But this was a test drive like no other. I can only describe her as an "IT" girl, a lady whose main occupation appeared to be going to parties and "eating" sherbert via her nostrils. But my God did she drive.

She had no problem letting me drive, but thought that she should drive around first. After a few short minutes of her driving I realised that I was clinging on to the door handle for dear life as she absolutely tore down the road, in the middle of the road, undertaking, overtaking - at all times she was cool as a cucumber. All of this driving I should point out was in London. She was, and I quote, "showing me what the car was capable of".

After getting out and thanking God I was still alive, I did then think...that was blooming awesome!

Test drove one in Abingdon in 2010 (a 3200) and loved it but didn't get into one until a few years later.

Popped my cherry test driving the attached back in July 2011. Was really nervous - too much power, flappy paddles, and far too noisy (Larini Sports Cats and Back Boxes).
Loved it and bought it.

Believe it or not, I first drove one after I'd bought it. The owner wouldn't let me test drive it when I went to view it... and he drove it like miss Daisy around Docklands... he said the police were all over the place and kept to the speed limit. Should have rung alarm bells, but I bought it anyway... Beau came with me and he said it looked like a good one. So... a few days later when the money had gone through I got a train up there and drove it back... straight to Mike Roberts... and he confirmed I'd got a 'good one'... so did everything against what everyone says, but that was over three years ago, and I wouldn't change it for the world... love it... and the engine management light ;o)

First when I was handed the keys of the QP IV and told to take as long as I wanted. We did arrive in the SZ so the owner assumed I would be coming back for that.

I also committed the cardinal cin. No test drive no inspection. But I did buy from adg. So had some peace of mind. So gave my deposit then collected the week after. My first drive in my superb Gransport followed by sitting on the m25 for two hours

Ditto!!

...and the second time after I collected it, I nearly ran into the back of a fiesta stopped at the traffic lights when I got my feet in a muddle, within 100 yards of leaving the forecourt. I think it was all the excitement and nerves!!

First was being loaned one for an afternoon from AlfaNet in Bristol.

Didn't buy that one (it was silver) but a Seabring Blue one a few month later from him...and despite its age and miles was still the best and most reliable one I have had (three now).

20 years ago I bought a 2.0 lt. LHD Ghibli from David Askew. He drove on the test drive as I'd never driven a Maserati or anything LHD so was a bit scared! So my first drive was when leaving his house. Loved it.

Anyone who has ever been driven by David Askew would be a bit scared, believe me ...!

My first drive was on the way back home after collecting the 4200 from its 1st owner. He wasn't happy to let me drive it even though I was insured so I was a passenger while he took it out for a drive for me.

He went inside before I left and didn't want to see me leave as he loves it so much so I guess I could understand it.
