Maser appreciation

Regarding the QP I think Jimmy Carr said it best in the times review I posted earlier in this section:

"At the services outside the city I returned to the car park to find the Maserati blocked in by a group of about 20 bikers. Now if I'd been driving a Bentley or a Ferrari I imagine they might have taken their own sweet time getting out of the way. They might have even stayed put and made the “ponce†in the flash motor wait a bit. But with the Maserati they couldn't have been more courteous. Clearly it's a car that brings out the best in people.

But why? I guess because it's an understated beauty, beautiful in the same way that Tom Cruise's wife Katie Holmes is beautiful – you know, girl-next-door beauty. You do a double-take when you look at her, and think you might be the only one to notice that she is actually stunning. The Quattroporte has that kind of beauty."

When I think of Jimmy Carr, I didnt think he would come out with such an eloquent way of describing the QP..... but he's hit the nail square and fairly on the head with what he said

Driving around central London yesterday doing various chores on my day off. So nice to see so many folks stop and appreciate the car. Especially when one person in a couple or group stops and points the cars out to the other(s). Men and women in equal measure. So nice to be in a marque that people genuinely appreciate...

Nice to hear guys...........that the masses recognise the purity of beauty and design for what it really is.............plus show some respect to both car and driver...:)

My logic

I went out for a drive last weekend with a mate and we picked a back route with lots of twists and turns and not to much traffic to take us both down to the coast for a nice Sunday drive and lunch in a local Italian Restaurant.

The drive was spirited but not suicidal the lunch was good. But on the way home crusing on the freeway I was caught in traffic next to a brown F430 spyder. Young guy late 30 ish + - I guess with similar aged female. She was busy flicking her long blonde locks everywhere so everyone passing would notice, he was in his smart leather bomber jacket designer shades on and the pair of them were posing with a capital P. Its because people like this buy ferrari's that put me off them. I seem to notice people who drive Maserati's are not really looking for the big show, look at me, Iv'e made it type of statement. Like me they drive the cars because they love them, they like to be different, but drive them just because they enjoy what they do, not showing off to the rest of the nation as they do it. Hopefully if this stays the same then maserati's will always be appreciated by everyone, owner or not!!!

Thats why I think you always get a sensible welcome.

Its still winter here only 15c but spring is in the air the blossoms are on the trees and the days are getting longer, can't wait for summer, far to much rain. If I wanted rain I could have stayed in the UK. More than enough for everyone.

Pics attached were taken down the coast at a place called Flinders. We stopped off at a chocolatier for the girls on the way back..

+1... great photos and scenery!

Agree with all that you say Al. Fuelling up the other day, a chap driving an S class came up to me and just expressed his admiration for he car. We struck up a friendly banter. Happens all the time.

Holy update Batman!!!
Well within six weeks of ownership, I'm realising what esteem this brand is held in. I have a Noble M400 that gets ridiculous attention wherever it goes, but in a car enthusiast or "what is/was that?" type of way.
My GTS just seems to gain friends where ever it goes, from the evocative badge, to the looks, to the noise, and the noise and the noise, and across all spectrums of people. I really really hope the brand doesn't go down the Aston route of more and more brand weakening, alloys that look like they've come out of Halfords, and "Emotion control units".
I simply adore my car.

I think it's fair to say we all do! I have the good fortune to go for drives, both cruising and flat out with many and varied supercars and the spyder never ceases to amaze people with it's sound and dynamic capabilities. I have a couple of mates, one in a Lambo and one in a DBS Volante who always try to follow me because they just adore the sound and keeping up with me. It does seem to bring out the best in people and the theatre it creates never gets old. You chose wisely Grasshopper!

LOVE sjc's post! Kinda nails my feelings about the thing. And most of us, I expect. Almost always puts a smile on my face... I still look back when leaving the house to walk to the station. Never had so many people come over to say 'nice car'.

And it goes like stink.

Not a religious man myself, but would be inclined to agree with the rather stately sounding old man in a dog collar who crossed the road the other day to tell me that "god put cars like yours on the road to make it a better place". He smiled with a bit of mischief about him and wandered off. My passenger couldn't believe it and we were both smiling and shaking our heads for the rest of the journey.
