Maserati Centenary Trip

It's only a suggestion, but if we can reserve say 25 rooms at one hotel with parking, then we can settle back a bit. If we leave it we could be scattered all over the place with people on their own etc., or not get any rooms at all..!! I listed a few on a previous post that looked good and not that expensive..!!

Hi everybody,

I am Barth, I am French and I am coming from Maseratitude like GUN. I am also involve in the organization of the Jubilee next year.

Today, we have 29 cars ready for the trip. For the hôtel, I booked 30 bedrooms in one Hotel and 30 bedrooms in another hotel distant from the first by 2km. We should be about 50 to 60 cars travelling from France to Italy.

If I can advise, it will be much better for you to book already 30 or 40 bedrooms in an hotel asap, because if all clubs from Europe are doing the same thing, before Chrismas, you wont find any bedrooms for this date around Modena.

I already enjoy to meet everybody in Modena next year.

Hi All,

Given the fact that rooms are being booked by other clubs / forums ahead of Maserati confirming their intentions, and bearing in mind your posts here showing concern that we should do likewise, I think that is therefore what we should do. As long as we don't get tied into cancellation policies there's no downside.

In light of this I think we should get the planning committee in place. I'm happy to include myself as usual, and Matt will do the same, however a team of four or five seems sensible to cover the various aspects and also to allow for the fact that we all have busy lives to account for as well.

The areas that immediately spring to mind are...

Hotel accommodation.
Route planning.
Centenary celebration planning.
Interclub / forum liaison.
Costings and collection of moneys as and if required.

Additionally we may choose to look at.

Sponsorship.
Breakdown cover - support vehicle.
National legal requirements.

Can I ask if anyone is interested to either post here or to drop me a PM?

Also we should now discuss journey dates, so either side of the weekend celebrations. Again please do post your thoughts.

Thanks, Miles.

Miles,
I'm happy to lend a hand as susual, but don't want to tread on any toes.
My thoughts were for a straight trip there, which can be either a 2 or 3 day drive, get to the hotel in Modena for Thursday Night. So we could stay just one night, or two, but one night is essential so we are there.
A lot depends on Maserati and what they are planning, if they are their usual self, then everything will be last minute and bu55er the customer, so we have to go for what we think. You suggested that the route might be to Maranello & Bologna was it, maybe we should book Saturday night in Bologna, or wherever it was that we think the finish is..??
When we leave on Sunday, then I assume groups will split off and either go straight home, or off to other places on the way. Maybe we could have suggestions for that. If some want to make another week of it including travel home, then this can be done in groups, or individually..!!
It's just over 1,000 miles for us one way, so I would say that's a 3 day drive to be comfortable, that means leaving on Monday 15th. September 2014, latest..!!
So just let me know what you want me to do and I'll get on with it..!!
Cheers

The last time I drove down to Modena I did about 800 miles the first day (Portsmouth to Alessandria) and the final 100 miles or so the following morning. But I was quite (very) tired at the end of day one! (I was the only driver - my wife didn't have a licence back then). This time I'll spread it out more evenly over two days. Even so, if the plan is to be in Modena for Thursday afternoon/evening, I'll not being leaving the UK until Wednesday.

Last time I was in my 944, the driving position of which is a fair bit more comfortable (for me at least) than any of the Maseratis I've driven. If I decide to come in my Cup this time it'll not be the comfiest 2 days of my life!

I visited the Lambo factory on that particular trip, and took some random pictures of cars in various stages of build. A few years later I bought a (by-then) second-hand Lambo, and looking back in my album found shots I'd taken of it being built. What are the chances!!!

Miles,

Also happy to help where I can. As I will be living close to Barth (I'll be 20 mins from Geneva airport) from mid-December this year, I'm happy to work on liaison with our French cousins!

Ewan,
800 miles in one stint is a heck of a drive. Just remember that all the cops will be on the look out, knowing that they could catch a Maserati speeding, it will be like a duck shoot..

I'm not sure I'm young enough to manage that many miles in a day anymore anyway. Definitely planning a more sensibly paced and spaced 2-day trip this time.

Good to see a plan coming together. We will have at least 550 miles to get down, so an overnight London/Tunnel area ?

My suggestion would be a Monday night stop-over in the UK to allow for those who have some distance to cover to get to the crossing. An early Tuesday crossing with Tuesday and Wednesday as stop-overs on the way down to arrive Modena on Thursday evening in time for the celebrations beginning on Friday 19th September.

I'd be happy to have Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in or around Modena, dependant on how the celebrations pan out, with Monday and Tuesday to get back to Calais, or wherever we choose to cross. Depending on crossing times a final UK stop-over to be home again no later than Wednesday.

For me based in Loughborough it'd mean I'd leave Monday and be home the following Wednesday.

Thanks Robert, Thanks Drew. Your assistance would be most helpful.

Robert, would you be happy to look at hotels in Modena? We can take care of the hotels either side of the celebrations separately, but we seem to need to get the Modena nights covered quite quickly. Is this okay?
Drew, you mention covering liaison with the French forum, which would be great. Additionally the other UK forum. I'll continue to make contact with the UK Owners Club. We may be able to tie in with the US forums also? Some are already discussing shipping cars over, in which case we may be able to meet en route.

It would be great to have someone look at the routing there and back. I guess the return will be more various based on peoples plans outside what we're doing, but certainly the route down.

Thanks, Miles.

It will be a pleasure to meet you here and to work together on this project.

About your trip, I will work on our roadbook starting from Paris to Modena. If you want I will send you this part to help you, because of the amount of cars riding, we have to split the total group in max 10 cars. Why? Because if 30 cars need to refuel in the same time, and you have only 4 pump available. If you agree that you need 15 minutes to park at the pump, to refuel and to pay, you will need around 2 hours to full up the 30 cars.

So, I will divide our group in several smaller group which will stop at different places except for eating at lunch time and at the hotel.

Concerning the US, I have posted something on MaseratiLife: http://www.maseratilife.com/forums/maserati-events/22074-sept-19th-21st-2014-a.html

One good route includes Rheims, Metz, Strasbourg then Mulhouse, with the French motor museum which is well worth a visit. Then over into Swiss-land and through the alps.
