You have a very valid point rossyl......and I certainly do not disagree with your point.......Maserati is still something of an unknown to many and no matter what we think the company still has a stigma around it from its past as unreliable and expensive to maintain cars.........where as Audi has the opposite I suppose. It takes a very long time to shake off a reputation and although it is loads better than it has been with the cars they make now they are still Italian and that would be enough to put some off and go German...........I think you are pretty spot on with that comment........
I think both your points a spot on and accurately explain why many people who can afford a Maserati choose not to buy one.
As someone who admired the brand for 20+ years but only took the leap into owning one 2 years ago, I am a good example. The brand view from outside is that the cars are characterful, drive well but not the best, but are ruinously expensive to run in terms of repairs, unreliability and depreciation. The reality for me so far has been that they are characterful, drive extremely well (within the GTs intended usage), are completely affordable to run from a reliability and depreciation standpoint (just as good as some Germans if not better).
