In that case get an M5 for 20k and keep it until you can afford the GTS/QP!

I must say I just can not warm to the new 5 series .. Every time I see one it just doesn't jump put at me styling wise .... It looks like a big 3 with a flat front ..... The new M5 looks as Benny says a mix of 3 series coupe at the back ..... Will need to dee it in the flesh to decide but at 80k I just couldn't buy it .... That really pains me as I'm a big 5 fan and after having an M5 I agree that its the best all round performance car out there.

I just can not recognise it at a glance and thats the first time I have ever said that about a 5 series.

would not buy new....30k 2 years old like the current one was......

+1

Just look at the last M5 and current M3 to confirm this is the way it's going to go....down, and fast. I spunked £15k in a year on depreciation on my M3 just to be one of the first to have it - big waste of money when I could have waited just a few months and saved myself £5-£10K. I dread to think what an £80k M5 will lose in year one....my guess is they'll be £60k in a year with under 10k on the clock.

people that buy them new dont care......they have loads of money

This will apply to a minority group of people - losing tens of thousands on a car matters even if you're loaded. A lot of cars in the price and size range of M5's are often bought by companies so personal loss isn't an issue.

A QP or GTS! Probably!

Without a doubt the QP is the more desirable and I'd 'like' to have a QP over an M5....whether I'd stand by that desire when push came to shove and I had to get my money out is another matter.

I agree, I don't think it's a looker at all. A very disappointing design after the much more adventurous E60 when it first came out (and was slated for being so....didn't stop it selling though!).

The fact it looks uncannily like a big 3 is all the more disappointing when you consider that this time next year well have the new F12 3-series.

It will be a storming motor though - my previous M6 was the best engineered car I've ever had by some margin, the V10 was epic and could out-drag my 911 Turbo above 100mph...at those speeds it was insanely fast and theres plenty of You Tube vids of them doing anything between 205 and 210 mph!! (M5 isn't quite as quick as it's about 150kg heavier and less aerodynamic but won't be far off). Shame it looked tosh really but the new 6 just released is much nicer and should convert into a nice (albeit Turbo'd), heavy depreciating M6 in a few years! A future Palmball car no doubt!

Thats the thing isn't it .... 80k on new or 30k on a 2nd M car ... Lets face it there are some great ones out there for that sort of money ... For me there is only one M car I would consider for around 25/30k and thats the M3 CSL...The best car I have ever owned...Should have never sold it to be honest...Sounded better than my 3200 and on track it was a giant killer.

I was looking at a new 5 series which was parked up in car park this weekend. I have to say that it looks like something the Japanese/Korean would design. Maybe they used the old Nissan QP for styling cues?
Love or loath the last 5-series, it was distinctive and hat off to BMW for going against convention on that one.
