Hi all,
Well I've had a few months to enjoy my pride and joy since it's major service at Giallo and she hasn't missed a beat, well apart from the battery finally succumbing in the wintery snow we had!
I knew from the service that it was going to need some new discs and pads soon but didn't like the idea of going the original Maserati route (£££). Therefore I got a set of the Brembo Ferrari 550 discs from AP and some Mintex pads from Brakes International as pointed out on this very forum. Fitted them on the drive this morning and was a very easy job. Probably about 30 minutes each side.. hardest part was persuading the old discs to shift loose of the hubs! Been out for a drive and brake pedal does feel better and more assertive.
When I got the car I knew it came with an RPI stainless exhaust upgrade but always felt it seemed bit quiet. I've been looking into options to "fruiten" up the tone and had really come to the conclusion that £1500 and a set of Larinis were the only way forwards. However with my curiosity getting the better of me I did some more digging on the RPI exhausts I had and found the they make two types, "Silenced" and "Sport". Hmm.. guess I have the silenced ones then! Looking at the Sport option they appear to be straight through pipes with no back box at all. I was close to pressing the "buy" button but couldn't see where £800 was going on a set of straight through pipes..
I paid a local custom exhaust builder a vist (http://www.classiccustomexhausts.co.uk/) and got them to make me up my own set of straight through pipes for the princely sum of £240 all in. They even fitted twin outlet pipes which the RPI "Sports" don't have and angled them to follow the bumper line. The result? OH MY!... the sound is to die for! Cruising the sound isn't that different and there is no droning. However at idle and at the red line there is a real bark to the engine now. It finally sounds like the Italian thoroughbred I felt it should do!
I now have a set of stainless RPI "Silenced" exhausts going cheap for anybody that needs some exhausts
Cheers
Mark
