If you think waste collection in the UK is fun you should try here. The recycling centres are very strict and there are wobbles on site to ensure compliance, there is no mixed recycling so something with metal and plastic. There is no concept of a general tip so lots of stuff can't be left, for instance you can't leave old sofas, bedding or anything mixed plus you have to pay. The only way to clear general rubbish is to hire a skip which you then have to pay a dumping fee on top of the skip rental.

You might have red tape in the UK but it is nothing like over here accept what you have.

Im all for it - Not red tape for the sake of it- but that's the crux of the issue in my view !
if you want to dump your sh1t, I see no reason you shouldnt pay for it..Recycling is expensive and energy demanding.
Having done the 'right' thing, and paid for it too however, its fair to expect that the cr4p gets dealt with in accordance with the regulations as they are there to preserve the lovely quality of life we enjoy..The truth is very different however...
When the pandemic hit, oil production carried on as normal; soon enough demand fell and a glut grew with no where to store it. The result was cheap crude, and a subsequent increase in single use plastics. Some plastic can be re-purposed. It is very much dependant on how its been 'mixed' with other materials during manufacture. It'll always be plastic however...
I recently read about a bunch of very clever scientists who turned plastic into vanilla flavouring. Id hand them their P45s and warn them they need to find something more worthwhile to do with their talents if it were me but maybe I need to rethink my objection to the whole 'plastic in the food chain' thing !!?

Having recently had to clear the possessions from my deceased mother's house, there is a significant amount of stuff that no one will recycle. Victim's of our own legislation, there to keep us from burning in a house fire for example.

Back to our waste mountains - Sh1p your sh1t elsewhere and burn it out of sight
seems to be 'modus operandi' for well over 50% of the claimed 'recycle' count....

We do love getting it up the chuff from the ruling class in this country !
We still think it would never happen to us - 'We're British, d4mn it.!! '

I think the expectation of many (to an extent, myself included) is that it's paid for as part of our Council Tax. As is the maintenance of the hedge I spent an hour clipping yesterday, or control of the ivy that threatens to tear down my fence several times a year. Oh and the local roads with holes in.

But it seems that our council tax is not sufficient to pay for these services, so perhaps we should pay more.
