Private Plate

Views on a priavte plate conundrum.....

I'm trying to decide whether to put my private plate on my GTS. For some reason I haven't bothered with my last couple of cars but decided I would this time around. It's nothing special just Prefix with initials. But.....

I also have the opportunity to put a different plate on which if you squint and bend the rules of spelling is arguably Maserati related. plate is MA54 MCS "MASA MCS"

Too cheesy.....? ..... or a bit of fun?

Generally speaking, I like them. The less you need to explain it/tamper with it, the better.

I agree with Woody, they are find as long as you dont muck about with them. I have M8 TTX but as you can probably guess, I space it M8TT X.

Technically its illegal, but I dont muck about with the font, nor the use of fixing dots to give the illusion its a letter and not a number, I could just ofcourse plonk one at the bottom of the 8, but thats just not me, and hence to date I have not been stopped by the filth.

I have N3 OOF

I have this displayed as:

N 300 F

Not had a single raised eybrow from Mr Plod and my hook line under it is:

It's a bit of fun...

I guess that explains my position on it as well!

Guy up the road from me regularly swaps his 'modified' plate to a legal one for a few days then back again mind it is: X71TSX which doesn't do anything in standard form, modified however is: X T1TS X guess he's a boobs man!

Bought mine in 1972 (ok so i'm old) and paid £150 for it. Saw it in the Sunday Times whilst having breakfast in bed. The old sidecar (as I call her) said 'they have your initials with our telephone number in here' to which I replied 'pull the other one, which she did' but when that was over I shot up to Sheffield from Dorset with 150 in my hand and became the proud owner of BJL123 (my phone number at that time was Milton Abbas 123) Great because it means something but still a bit cheesy I suppose.

Around the Sandbanks area you unfortunately see such absurdly contrived adjustments to the extent that they should all read T05 SER. Generally though it's either a bit of fun or a way of usefully using the hole burnt in your pocket. I wonder if 'V8 GTS' is for sale anywhere?

I have T13 LLA on my 4200

It is prety useless as a private plate. But, it means a lot to me.

I say go for it, OP.

I would rather spend my money on mods than private plates! :)

It would be nice though to have something that really stands out, like M4 SER, although the paranoid part of me fears that it would give someone extra motivation to key the car. There's a Bentley in Bath with a plate that reads L355 TAX ('less tax' for the dozey out there). To me that's like a red rag to a key-wielding chav who wished he could afford something more than a fatter exhaust for his Fiesta.

I did have 1 DEM on mine, but with my financial issues i have now put a cheaper plate on.....
I have Y9 DEM......

I would not have a private plate on an everyday car as i like being discreet but on the maserati being a weekend car i like it....

That is a good plate actually, well priced, ours is X31 ADM, the 1 represents an I for my dad's name Ian, A is my name, D is my mum's name Donna and the M is for our surname Melville, £200 although as the plate looks like an "Adam" plate, i think i will have it on my car.

Good encouragement guys! Some good reg's out there.

So, cheesy 'Masa' plate or more restrained personal initials. That's the real decision here.....
