RAC called!!!

Car booked in anyway on Wednesday to have my parking sensors looked at (and reattach me knob!!) but this morning, just setting off to take my boy to football, and the Masser is dead!!

When the key is turned, there's a fast ticking noise and the radio display flickers quickly on & off. I then get on the display a series of error messages saying "EBD failure go to dealer", "ABS failure", "check right sidelight", "have power steering checked", "EPB failure only manual unlock allowed", "parking help unavailable" (used to that one"), "parking brake failure".

RAC due in 20 minutes.

Any thoughts from you guys?

Can't post a video on here it seems.

Flat battery with enough juice to keep the warning light dance going? Solenoid clicking?

Yup; battery goosed! 4 weeks in and the thing is falling apart already. Declined RAC’s battery at £140 as hopefully I can get the Dealer to pay for one but won’t know until tomorrow. I’ll have to jumpstart it to get it to the dealer.

Just in case I’m on for buying one which batteries do you recommend?

He thought this was the original battery and the change of weather killed it.

I think jumpstartibgvhave causes issues for some people in the past, I would go for an overnight change on a trickle charge if you have the option.

Having said that I have used a jump pack numerous times without a problem.

These cars do have a habit of running even a good battery down - alarms and trackers being on every of the culprits.

Hope you are sorted soon

You can use a power pack, or a battery on another car “other car not running”, however, if any of the cells have gone it won’t matter how many batteries, power packs you use, it won’t start...
I’d have taken the RAC battery and asked the dealer to pay it...

If it's any consolation my QPV burnt two coil packs first drive, nearly choked on acrid melting plastic just as I arrived in Dublin, then in the first 6 weals I had transmission failure three time (clutch position sensor) then it just died on North Strand Dublin at rush hour causing a traffic incident, that was engine speed sensor. Since then nothing.

No car is designed to sit in a garage, a good ragging and regular exercise will sort it out

Bosch is the battery of choice, £100 or so

I’d have taken the RAC battery and asked the dealer to pay it...

Was nervous about the quality of the RAC battery (even though it came with 5 years warranty) hence not going for the easy option.

Will message the selling dealer in a bit and fish for a complementary battery

Happy to get a Bosch S5 but there seems a few versions (063 - £145 to 020 - £295 at EuroCarParts. Any preference?

RAC batteries are Bosch or Varta IIRC. There is a lot to be said about convenience and if the battery offered met the specification I would have taken it and ordered a CTEK online as well. I’m on my factory battery after 7+ years FWIW.

I took the AA one, 5 yr warranty...

Oh bugger. They said they could revisit but £40 additional charge. Still, gets me back on the road! The chaps system did claim my car had start/stop so couldn’t supply a battery but when I said my car doesn’t have it offered me a battery for £140. Hence my resistance to commit.

When my car battery decided to give up the ghost, the AA man fitted the battery to ensure that was the problem, as it was fitted he said you can buy your own if you want, I was like, well, it’s fitted and running, leave it n there, £125 for GS battery...

Mines a Yuasa, couldn’t remember name, plenty of guys on here have them in a GT,
Like I said, if cells have gone, no jumping will start it, I had a 1000mAH battery pack, the guys use it to jump the tractor, and all I got was continuos ticking...
If you can, go and collect then fit it.

Bosch S5 comes with a 5 year guarantee, S4 4 years etc. Yuasa are good, basically any battery is good, just keep them tended well.
