Sneaky Insurance Apps

Insurance renewal time for the fleet. I'm currently with Admiral and they have an app. However on flicking through the terms and conditions I came across this paragraph.

No doubt that if you were unfortunate to be involved in an incident they'd use this against you. It can be turned off and they say that you might get a refund if you drive like a vicar but I wouldn't trust it.

App deleted!

Doesn’t surprise me, just about everything has a hidden something and of course very few read the T’s & C’s.
Would hate to think what data is hidden in my phone and how it could be used against me in certain circumstances.
For example, I am absolutely certain Jaguar know where my car is at any given time and how it’s been driven.

I've just moved from Admiral after poor service and a hike in premium. Saw AIB insurance was a sponsor on here so got in touch. Would recommend talking to Leah as nothing was too much trouble and couldn't be happier.

As a general comment it is worth checking from time to time just exactly what apps have what permissions! Easy enough to do - just tedious.

Sorry sir, we've disallowed your insurance claim as your Covid passport app puts you in the pub just before you hit the deer......

I saw something a while back where a car helped in the conviction of a murderer

Mercedes , the black box stored everything , the police got a court order for mercedes to release the information

It gave them all the GPS info you'd imagine but it had accurate timings for all the opening and closing of the doors , they knew he'd driven to the burial site, opened the boot to remove the body and tools then an hour later it was open for less time because he was just putting the tools back in the car

Fair enough that it cant tell if your driving or a passenger but in what world should the bus driver , maniac taxi driver , taxi driver, train driver or @conaero driving you around have any effect on your own car insurance.

the mind boggles on how many ways we are all being tracked by different corporations/companies/government etc, quite scary actually, i make a point of keeping all tracking info switched off with any apps as already mentioned

From today's BBC review of the Guardian

"Elsewhere, the Guardian reports that one of the world's largest call centre firms has told some staff that specialist webcams will be fitted to check if employees are eating, looking at their phone or leaving their desk while working from home. Teleperformance, which employs about 380,000 people in 34 countries, told the paper the remote scans would not be used in Britain. But unions and MPs are warning about the use of home surveillance, the paper adds."

According to the article they can also monitor keystrokes/work rate/idle periods, and whilst none of that is really surprising I'm really not in favour of the surveillance society. If I was still working I think I would rather return to the office and deny an employer or their 'agents' access to my home.

Monitoring employees has grown out of all proportion with lockdown providing the perfect excuse.
My company are fairly light touch and just have information about computer up time, documents read, web activity, calls made etc and a nifty screen call that generates random contact during working hours. - just to check on my 'wellbeing".

And out of work hours SWMBO takes over tracking my every move!

It has got pretty bad how much monitoring and tracking goes on now. Also all our online transactions as well. If you're concerned or interested Edward Snowden has quite a few reveling but interesting videos out on you Tube.

Apparently mobile phones calls for many networks for the last 30 years have been recorded and are stored. Even fixed lined calls with many carriers.

I am presuming Google knows what I'm typing here as I type it. I'm not happy about it and I'm starting to research more and try to do more to become less visible. However it is very hard these days to be remotely off grid.

When cash disapears they will know and track every financial we make.
