The good morning thread

Well, still not really recovered from short ebola outbreak, so not going to be driving back to our place to watch Le Tour in the Alps. However, having been reading this morning of the 4 hour delays at Dover to get through passport control, I can't say I'm distressed at missing that part of the journey. The delays at 5am were apparently already more than 2.5 hours - ridiculous.

So apparently the variators '...are not within the engine unit itself, they are external just like a vanos unit - they simply bolt on.'

Wow!

Correct as in in they are external, Phil?

It's such an ambiguous description and one which an insurance company or warranty company use as a "get out clause". If we are talking a major "internal" engine component then no they are correct but it is still part of the engine and is a mechanical part. The Variators are mechanical and either the warranty covers it or it must specifically exclude certain parts within the terms of cover. I'd need to see the exclusions and inclusions on the policy to determine what is covered.

You do realise that under the new Consumer Rights (October 2015 which replaces SOGA) that "If a defect is found after 30 days, but within six months, buyers are entitled to request a repair, replacement or refund. The law assumes that the fault was there at the time of delivery, unless the seller can prove it wasn’t."

Well the Marrakech job is confirmed and provisionally booked to go out on 25th Oct till Nov 2nd but I may pull it back a couple of days as I have commitments and also Llandow!

Also a good possibility of a 'customer hug' visit to Singapore to train them in maintenance and troubleshooting before that!

Singapore? Loved working in Singapore - it's an extremely pleasant place to visit, although the weather is the same as the UK has had for the last two days. Very hot and humid... Have you been before Newton?

Every Variator job I did for Maserati was paid for by the warranty company.
With the amount of stuff to remove you can't get much more internal that really in my book. The amount we did I was amazed that warranty companies cover Maserati.

And do we have the basics right about models affected?

Dry sump - less affected due to non-return valve fitted
Wet sump - 2007-2009 cars affected (see engine numbers) includes QP Automatica, GT and GTS

Very nice Andy. I was out in a mates Jag, XF estate, 2.2 D last night, it's a lovely car.

Morning all. Opel passed its MOT then broke down on the test drive. Only a blocked fuel filter but it was a little embarrassing :(

Just work, work, work today.
