I think I was lucky that this one had just arrived as I hear even the SS Datejusts are getting tricky to find without a wait now. Blue, Fluted bezel with the Jubilee bracelet I'm told is the most popular/ hardest to get hold of at present, followed by the Wimbledon dial models.

Anyway, these Rolex waitlists are a right nonsense. I just walked right into the shop and they couldn't do enough to help me :)
You aint seen me, right?

I rather hope they wouldn't have been hugely intimidated by a Tempest :D

I've still got my 60's Hurricane that my Grandfather gave me around 5 years old. Still actually packs a punch would not want to be hit by it!!
I remember the Hurricane. Its a bit longer so you can fit a sight on top if Irecall. I got the tempest in the pic years and years ago! First time its been out of its box in a very long time. Great for shooting tin cans in the garden :)

Correct - you got lucky! The chance of walking into a Rolex shop and them having what you want is very slim.
After your post I called three, and none had any SS 41mm Datejust watches, let alone with a blue face and fluted bezel.
And going on a list isn’t any guarantee, as they can’t request specific watches from Rolex. In short, they get a delivery once a month, of a random selection (chosen by the factory), and that’s what they have to sell.
So, if I had to buy, today, the watch I want, the only option would be to buy a second hand one at about a £1.5k premium over new. Which is annoying.

Just amazes me that Rolex as a “volume” manufacturer in the premium Swiss market have made their brand so coveted. The similar products from the other big companies such as Omega and Tag would love to emulate that I’m sure.

I love my Daytona but prefer the Omega Seamaster over the similar Rolex Sub any day, especially as comparable models are about half price. This is my Casino Royale limited edition with the rifled gun barrel face instead of the usual wave effect, and 007 motif on the end of the second hand. 85747

If I was dropping a wedge on a watch, there are far more desirable watch brands than Rolex for the same money personally.
Just think the volume of Rolex sold has devalued the brand for me personally. Its too much "I've made it" watch of choice.
Bit like a Ferrari really!

Good enough for 007 it's good enough for me.

I have to say, they don't really do it for me, either.

I have one, but as a legacy. When the actual owner passes, it will be sold to be replaced with something more to my taste.

Not quite sure what, but not in any hurry, as one might imagine.

“Rolex” is an aspirational brand.
Sure there’s others but it’s reputation is certainly one that many admire and strive for.
Me included.
Anyone that ever bought one will remember the moment, well.

I think Rolex is aspirational because they are so well know and the 'man in the street' sees it as the pinnacle because they don't know any different. The reality being that they are many many top end watch makers that are completely anonymous to most.

Yes Rolex make some nice watches but for me (and I love my watches) Rolex is nothing special and not on my wish list.

Good points, I think the informed know it’s not the pinnacle.
That’s not in question.
But as an aim, an objective for hard working people, from hard working backgrounds-it a rung on a very expensive ladder.

And I don't disagree with that. Much like many people aspire to owning a Ferrari - not necessarily because they are the best or because they lust after a particular model; they just want a Ferrari and the perceived kudos / validation to their wellbeing.
