Here’s another of my favourite watches that dates from 1953. It still keeps excellent time.

Only if they need a cleaner or a salesman.....Yep, I like the Milgaus.
and you can work at CERN and not have to take your watch off.
Rolex have managed their supply chain well, with the relative lack of supply helping to keep up levels of interest and second-hand values. For example, and if you could find one, you could buy a popular Datejust or Submariner for its RRP of (say) £10k today, and then sell it tomorrow for £12k.
Whereas for something equally rugged but wearable such as Omega or Breitling, you wouldn't dream of paying the full RRP in the first place. And you would then expect it to drop another third as you walk out of the shop. So, an equivalent watch with an RRP of 10K would most likely only return you maybe £6k if you had to out it the following day.
Of course, you don't just buy a watch for economic reasons. But I'm pleased that the (modest) profits on my two Rolex watches are counter balancing the losses on my others.
Like the watch box tooRelated to Rolex, but at the same time nothing like them! Such a no nonsense tool watch, I love it. Quite a thick case though, but very light on the wrist being titanium.

Like the watch box too
You did so well to stumble across that Datejust. I called 6 Rolex dealers on Friday and all said they had waiting lists for any S/S Datejust, or Perpetual, or Air King (the three models I’m interested in). They all said they would never have such a watch sitting in the shop and available - they would always be pre-sold.
Sort of like (most of) our Maseratis, related to Ferrari, but a more useful and practical car.Related to Rolex
Ball made watches used for timekeeping on the railway, hence "on the Ball".Been a bit quiet here the past few days so thought I would liven things up a bit with picture of my Balls.
Love these! Not particularly expensive at list but you can pick up some real bargains if you look around. Both of these being well under £1k brand new when on sale.
The smaller one is an Engineer Marvelight in 40MM, the bigger one is an Engineer Genesis 43mm.
Fantastically made watches with ETA 2824 and a 2836 movement in the Genesis day date. The Genesis is a bit marmite but I like it. The Marvelight reminds me a lot of the Milgauss and wears well for any occasion.
Most impressive part is Balls use of Tritium gas tubes instead of conventional lume. Super bright at night. You can almost use them as torches!
Ball are well worth a look if you get on with the design.

I'm going to have to ask you for a reference for that, I'm afraid....
One that predates the observation in 1864 at least.....

Ball Watch Brand Review - Are They Good Quality Watches?
Ball has been making watches since 1891. Many readers ask if Ball is a good brand so we take a closer look at the brand's watches and reputation.watchranker.com
Just something I read. Always seemed plausible, but if you have a better source, that's fine too.Yeah but given they didn't start making watches until 1891 I think it's probably a little open to question?
