I'm looking to buy the Mrs a watch for her birthday, and she likes the Omega deville.
Was looking at Montblanc as an alternative.
Not sure which would be a better watch at around the same price approx £2.5k.
The Omega that is a quartz, and has the name, or the Montblanc which is a new name in watches, but an automatic.
Or any other similar styled watch?

Personally I prefer the Mont Blanc. Mont Blanc is an established brand. Sure, not so old in watches, but getting to 25 years....

Probably little known fact about Montblanc:

Today, Montblanc forms part of the Richemont group. Its sister companies include luxury brands Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chloé, and Baume et Mercier. Montblanc is owned, through Richemont, by the South African Rupert family.

The old man, Anton Rupert used to live in a fairly normal, unfenced house around the corner from me in Stellenbosch. no pretensions, despite being a billionaire.

The family also owns a car museum on a wine estate, which is worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Errr Montblanc have been making watches since 1858, so not that new.
No idea about watches, I am not even aware the company traded as Mont Blanc that far back, thought they started using the Mont Blanc brand in the 1930’s

I love their pens. Their shops are quite fun as well :)

They are both nice I’d say figure out first if your wife wants the convenience of quartz or the mystique/faff of mechanical. Even autos regularly need winding and adjusting.

The Montblanc is 30mm, the Omega 24mm so it might depend on her wrist size. £2.5k should see you into Cartier Tank Must De territory ( also quartz) the small one is 22mm in width, they are also a lovely watch on a lady. The face of the Montblanc is lovely though.

To close this off bought the Omega, and she is very happy.
Happy Wife = Happy Husband, as we all know!!

I've just bought myself a new daily smartwatch, to replace my 4 year old LG Watch Sport, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
Things have come on, as slim as a normal watch, eSim LTE automatically when away from my phone (you don't need an official expensive contract to do this...) swim proof, tells you are alive etc etc. I know the Apple iWatch can also do this, but so boring and I'm not into Apples!

Very nice. The Omega that is ;)

Still tempted by an Exospace, but it's going to be obsolete far too fast.

And that's the problem.
Was so, so, tempted by the original TAG Connected, and the Montblanc Summit 2+
The TAG even today still doesn't allow you to take phone calls, forget about any independent LTE connectivity.
With sales and company discount portal, bought the Samsung for only £269, and it has a lovely stainless steel body and you can put on your own straps.

This is going to be the issue with all high end connected watches. In fact I rather doubt the concept will survive. I recall the original TAG connected they pretty much admitted as much and part of the deal was to put a Carerra movement in it when the electronics were EOSL. But that was about the same price as buying a new Carerra anyway!

Yes I recall the deal, but wasn't really a deal and an automatic I would have wished to own anyway.
I wish sony would sell their new wena smartband in Europe, a nice compromise.

I don't know if it's just me but I really like to see fingers and moving parts on my timepieces.
