£70 for less that a minute work seems bloody extortionate to me.

I have worked a lot of mechanical watches in the past and have an expensive professional degausser and a cheep DIY job. Both do the job just fine, it’s just that professional one is nicer to use. With the cheap one yo place the watch against the unit, switch it on and slowly draw the watch away while inscribing a slight circular motion until the watch is about twelve to fifteen inches away from the degauser before switching it off. The watch should now be free of magnetism. Occasionally you may have to repeat the process to get the desired result.

These cheap units are readily available on eBay.

And there's no reason they shouldn't be just fine. Great for wiping old stylee discs as well :)

Am I correct in suspecting the induction?
If so, I could remove it every time I am at the stove, but not really practical.
Otherwise a biannual degauss at £70 a shot at Beards
I've seen that there are quite a few Demagnetisers, they are surprisingly cheap, but seem to be effective.
Has any of us hear had experience of them?

I have one of those cheap blue Chinese degaussers. Mine definitely works as I’ve used it on a couple of old watches, one more than once. There is a technique to using them, some videos on Youtube helped me.

I’d say an induction hob could magnetize a watch if you were unlucky in how you moved your hand. Indeed, the demagnetisers can magnetize them if used the wrong way.

I have a lot of respect for watchmakers, but £70 for degaussing sounds like Maserati pricing to me, unless they are also checking that the balance is clean, regulating etc.

Fabulous. I'd seen the ebay ones. They all seem much the same

Keep your watch away from anything with neodymium magnets. A lot of bags and cases, cupboard door have them. Even the Apple pen that I use with my iPad is very magnetic.
Indeed. I use them with proximity sensors too. However despite having extraordinary strength close too, the field rapidly decays with small ones. Eg flip cases on phones.
Even so every little helps

Glad to have my Kirium back from TAG today.

Looks like new with the bracelet polished.

However they have had it for 4 months, and disappointingly, it's the second time in 4 years that it has needed a new dial because the seals have perished.

I know TAG are not at the top of the tree, but should I expect this level of maintenance? (First 20 years of ownership were maintenance free - apart from battery obviously)

Certainly my Tags have been rather more reliable than that. I think one has been back 3 times for batteries etc in 14 years. The Carerra I bought 'pre-owned' 4 years back and has never been touched (must get that sorted)

Just packed up my Airwolf to send to LWR as the backlight has stopped working. Just annoying as opposed to anything else

My Carerra that I bought around 20 months ago has gone back to Tag as it isn’t keeping time well. Bit annoying as it’s a lovely watch but hopefully they will sort it out.

Only watch I have that doesn't keep time is my Longines which is the most expensive by a chunk.

Still looks lovely, though

Wasn’t sure whether to post this here or not. Kels got a couple of really hot, minted, lesbian friends and they very kindly bought me this for Christmas.

Its definitely the best Christmas present I’ve ever been gifted and I don’t wanna sound ungrateful but it’s not what I meant when I said “I wanna watch”.
