£70 for less that a minute work seems bloody extortionate to me.
I have worked a lot of mechanical watches in the past and have an expensive professional degausser and a cheep DIY job. Both do the job just fine, it’s just that professional one is nicer to use. With the cheap one yo place the watch against the unit, switch it on and slowly draw the watch away while inscribing a slight circular motion until the watch is about twelve to fifteen inches away from the degauser before switching it off. The watch should now be free of magnetism. Occasionally you may have to repeat the process to get the desired result.
These cheap units are readily available on eBay.
And there's no reason they shouldn't be just fine. Great for wiping old stylee discs as well
