That is terrible .. I know Maserati looked at this a few years back with the Kuban as whatever it was called but to share a platform with the Jeep is like adding lemonde to a glass of great wine.

It'll be a sad day for Maserati if that rolls off the production line and I can't think why an SUV? Don't they know they'll be up against the Range Rover and Cayenne> That's a contest they will not win.

One word. China.

Like the Cayenne this thing will sell like hot cakes in the middle east, India and China, and be a cash-cow. Maserati will then follow Porsche in to the realms of mass production, and thus lose any retained sense of exclusivity. This seems like a ridiculous strategy to me when they already have Ferrari which has already (IMHO) lost the exclusivity and magic it once held because of the cheesy merchandising - the brand is tarnished almost to the point of being a joke and yet they won't produce a Dino because it is too down-market!!!

I don't get it I'm afraid!

on the up side maybe the 3200 / 4200 owners still hold the keys to the last of the true Maserati stable... they aint making them any more....we can keep the spirit alive! :thumb:

I get what you're saying about the ME Paco, but not India and China. At that price, you're talking very limited sales in these markets, and they're up against RR and Porsche, hence only 5,000 units outside the US, which is a 'dip a toe in the water' production run. I guess they can produce more if demand requires, but they ain't going to get rich off 5,000 units. Makes no sense to me at all. :-(

True Miles, hadn't picked up on the 5000 units but then I wonder how many Cayennes Porsche planned to sell to hit break-even, before selling 6 billion of the things!!

I know the tax in India is mental, presumably in China too, but they'll sell a few there I reckon.
