That is the bargain of the century, i can only think the reasons why it hasn't sold is because it is a 2004 and it is silver, 18k for that, i would ring him up now if i had the funds.

I went to view this car in the summer when it was at 24k.

To be honest it was fairly rough around the edges.

- Interior looked well worn
- Head light washer cover missing
- several scratchs around the body work
- all four wheels need refurbing
- Invoice missing and stamps missing from the service book
- covers missing in the engine bay
- Garage didnt know much about the car, they were selling it for a ciity guy who has moved to hong kong if i remember correctly.
- Several attempts to engage 1st gear on the test drive which was either me or something else going on.
- After lots of questioning it sounded like it needed a service and a new clutch as well.

HOWEVER at this price Im back in to this. I wonder how low the owner would go. He probably just wants shot of it!!!

Yeah it is the worst car in terms of condition i have seen. Not a well loved car.

The gearbox issue put me off well if im honest it scared the S**T out of me as the last thing i would want would be a failure a couple days/weeks/months in to ownership. The guy at the garage said it was me however when he tried to engage it did the same thing for a minute or so before behaving. could be nothing but I dont think so.

I hate it when you look at a car and the things wrong with it are present purely through laziness. For example the plastic covers in the engine bay were all loose and where there were screws they werent the standard ones. If the guys working on it cant be bothered to do that right. what the **** have they done with the rest.

The service stamps were also an issue. They said that a maserati garage in park royal i forget who had serviced it twice in the last two years but hadnt stamped it. They were going to get it stamped but then that worries me aswell asthey could just have a guy on the inside who could stamp it for them if they greese his palm. I may be being sceptical but i think its the most comfortable angle id like to look at maserati procuement. :)

you did the right thing to walk away, you can't take risks on these kind of cars, it is a shame there are neglected Gransport's out there because they are rare beasts. I think the Red one you were looking at is a very nice car, o.k it has been standing for 10 months (believed to be) as long as it is checked before sale then it is a good car, i think there is a good deal to be done with that red GS.

He doesw say ONO on the advert so whoknows what he will take.....Get an inspection on her atke into account a service and putting right nay thing that may come out of the inspection and you couls still get a good deal maybe....

But I'm with Adam the red one is the better bet....

i wouldn't buy a car of this calibre with only a partial service history, it would have to be a F.S.H for me, i am sure many will agree as well.

this is a dog....should have sold 1st time round as the price was competitive back then.....

no service history with new clutch makes this car a 16k buy for me if you willing to still buy it....

park royal service is hr owen so ask them........

Presumably a PPI would identify any/most issues with this car.

Not being able to get it into 1st gear could have been that the brake pedal wasn't being depressed enough - the brake pedal sensor must be activated before the electronics will let you select 1st. Bonnet looks a little proud in the photos, but this could simply need adjusting.

I was going to look at this car when it was first put on the marke last summer (I think it was up for £25-26), but was put off when I read comments from those who had seen it.

I'm sure the car could be tidied up, but the service history would be the real bug bear I guess for any potential buyer, unless they plan to keep it for a while. You can't complain about the price though....

I think its worth a punt but with a full inspection. At 18k you have at leat 7k in the bank for repairs compared to others on the market...and that's a lot of fettling money if you get the main things fixed as part of the deal or more money off.

Would agree Pete...worth looking at and costing...You never know it could be a cheap car...Or then again a nightmare.......Remember the blue one with all talked about to death as it didn't sell because of the miles on it...Well that was bought by a chap on here and turned out to be OK.

its the resale with a lack of service history that will bother me......

i would buy it if the inspection deemed it alright but i wont want to pay more than 16k....your bound to need 4k putting it right.....

At least, im no expert but i felt there was at least 6k of repairs and sorting before the car was presentable.

The biggest worry for me is that i dont think its been serviced properly at all...i dont think HR owen have seen the car there is no way they would leave the engine bay in that state..so who has been looking after it, and we all know servicing is the key with these cars other wise its £££££ in hiden problems.

i would be a bit sceptical about the service history, i would rather buy a mint 4200 for what this is up for. Also, why has the guy advertised it in the 3200 section?

Why be put off , its just a list of jobs to be done and ticked off , if your not handy with a spanner then this car is probably not for you , if your happier buying from a dealer with all the guarantees then fine , but your seeing and buying this car cheap and as is , do your homework get reports and checks the parts prices , if it ll adds up and your a few quid in then fine ,

Worst case , re the gear selection F1 pump /clutch renew both at around £1500 , complete new fluids and belts service £750 , Pads and discs £500 ,plastic engine cowels and bolts £100

For £3K on top thats having the work done by a reputable indie , Full in and out Valet/Paint correction and wheel refurb £400 , now writing it down like that its just a list of tasks to be done makes it a lot more viable and reassurance for a couple of years

regards loz

I hear you Loz. To be honest i do all the work on my alfas, and have taken on the 75 with out any really issues yet, just like you say a very long list of stuff to work through.

I guess being new to maserati and realising its a big step up in technology etc i maybe being a bit over cautious. :)
