Three Phase supply

I need normal 240v sockets to run things like heaters (although there are some neat 400v jobs) and music, extra lights etc.

What I have is a 400v, three phase socket.

I don't want to power any motors at all. You're the one that started with the motors! ;)

Oh I see, you have a 3 phase supply and only want to use one? Then I refer you to Life2Short’s answer. I’d be surprised if there isn’t a normal socket hiding somewhere!

I dunno if I want to use one or fly elephants :lol2:

Well there is

one 13A socket

I'd rather like some more..... Yes I can use extension leads and multiple adaptors, bit....

Ooo....now we’re talking phase angles too.....
Where’s my oscilloscope.
Too my not very clever mind.
He should be able to take a supply from one phase in the dB, and the neutral to run to a 240v circuit...depends how much he is going to draw on the circuit though.

In all sincerity get youself a sparky , just bite the bullet , getting 415 wrong will splatter you on the ceiling , its not like getting 240 and thinking what the feck was that as you shake you arm .............do it properly not many get 2nd chances with 415

dB? Distribution board? I have a sort of guideline about those.....

Ah. So check the breaker and cable size (or get an adult to do it for you) if it’s a 16 amp you can have them convert your single socket into a ring main.

Trust you to spoil the fun with sage advice, I was waiting for Chris’s fully charged stuttering report of how he got on......

its not rocket science, swap out the 3 phase breaker for that circuit for a single phase breaker and then just change all the 3 phase outlets to 3 pin plug sockets, simples

yeah there's no need to light the guy up , lost a good mate on Brighton pier substation , fully qualified commercial sparky wiring some live joints and an idiot apprentice knocked a set of 24" steelsons off the top onto where he was working , apprentice was blasted clear my mate burned horribly , and so did the sub station and all the oil started leaking over the place

It certainly will get your attention, but at least AC throws you off. We have been doing test protocols for a 400v DC system with 1000 amp breakers. If that gets you it holds onto you until you are like pulled pork.

Nasty, I knew someone who had a similar experience, they made it but it was touch and go.

If you're hands on it really is a straightforward job, as long as supply to board is isolated before any works then there is absolutely no chance of electrocution, its a simple case of swapping things over and a breaker will trip if you've done anything wrong anyway
