lol I was spooled by the idea of paying 3000 EUR for a turbo, that was something I was finding not acceptable. And my google is one of the best in the world! ;)

Nice one.....3k is a lot of money....

To true Dem I do miss the old 3200 spooling up sort of fancy another one really. Of course I would have to do the 4200 rear light conversion on her though!!!

Ok forgive me, I have just got back in from the pub!

God, all we talked about all night were these blessed riots, done on now on the subject!

Was going to say.....are you drunk??

Nah, I always go out on a Tuesday for a curry with my mates from Winchester, since I moved away some 10 years ago, if we did not meet up every week, we would not bother keeping in touch.

The Tuesday curry night has been going since 1993 and even appeared in one of the guys wedding vows....that thy shall not prohibited curry night!

thanks guys for the info - didn't know Eurospares could refurbish turbos but will enquire and find out - I had priced one from David Askew from low mileage cars at £550 so on a par with the ebay sale just about. Peter thanks for that tip it could be well worth trying as it does seem unusual that the turbo is going in my limited opinion.
Price of the new turbo sounds tempting , good spot Javier

Have your sorted the turbo now?
Might be in the same boat myself. just dropped off car for MOT and investigate the awful noise. Most likely turbo..................

Just to put a cloth cap on it have permanent ABS and EBD warn lights so got ABS sensor(s) / ECU / pump issues.

What is the point of all this turbo nonsense? Just ask the 3200 driver who got his doors blown off by my 4200 if his turbo troubles were worth it!!!! Just a thought.

Benny having owned both I would say the 3200 feels faster than the 4200 in the mid range with a manual box it really is savage. They struggle in the bends but an AC would have this sorted.

There was an unofficial report that a 3200 put in a quicker lap time round the Modena test track than the 360.....and thus it was detuned, maybe urban folk law but no smoke and all that.

The 3200 has many faults but the turbo system is not one of them. It is über reliable thanks to Maserati doing their homework and going for Japanese roller bearing turbos. Never had any issues with mine, just everything else around it fell to bits. Knowing what I know now what with all the fixes on here I would have one again, especially over a similar priced 4200. GranSport is in a league of its own though.

Thanks Matt. I appreciate the 3200 is a good car, I was just having a poke at the soft 3200 underbelly, to keep the banter flowing. Although I do have to say my 4200 kept up with LeeH around the Evo triangle and did the Belgian guy on the Autobahn for top speed. Perhaps the 3200 just feels faster due to the turbo surge when coming on boost whereas the 4200 is more linear in power delivery. Either way, I doubt there is much to choose between them, but don't tell 'them' that!!!

Yes Dem, Ben is fine and yes, the 3200 is a great car. It's just not as good as a 4200!

Benny thats what I thought, the linear 42 over the surgy 32. Still, the 32 feels as mad as a box of frogs, something to be said for that.

Pat, I appreciate your thoughts on this one as we have both followed the same route, even a V6 GTV previous too.

Hi,

I had started to hear an unusual ticking kind of noise from the nearside so took the 3200 to the garage and put it up on the ramp. The noise seems to be comming from the nearside turbo so will price up a recon one as a new turbo from eurospares is £2000+!!!
Has anyone else experienced a worn turbo in a 3200? to access it is it easier to take the engine out or lower the subframe to access it as it looks bloomin difficult to get to??

Thanks in advance

Andrew

SNAP!

diagnosed mine yesterday - near side turbo ******* - impellor breaking up.

What is the best way to get at it?
My trusty mechanic reckons it involves fair bit of dis-assembly to get at the nuts cleanly. Not planning to stop him, as the thought of studs snapping off in the head is too much to bear.
