Bugging me. The best looking car( imo) on the road, and the engine doesnt measure up with all the theatre...
Why dont Maserati stick the Ghibli Trofeo Engine in it ???

Because at the end it become underdeveloped as Maserati we’re focusing on what they thought would be there major sellers to bring them up as a major playing in the saloon and SUV market. It’s an old school car and yes a more powerful engine would have been great but anyone that owns one do not seem to be bothered and love it for what it is.

I agree it was a missed opportunity. It would have made the performance competitive but it would have needed the 8sp ZF gearbox and some other dynamic tweaks to make it worth it. They probably figured they were better off making do and focusing on the saloon and SUV market. Hopefully the new GT is the car we are all wanting it to be

Wasn’t the California originally intended to be a Maserati?
Yep. Maserati got the MC20 after the Ferrari realised the Nuovo Dino would bust them through a certain number of cars produced per year and thus out of a certain set of EU rules and regulations. It was then an Alfa 6C until the Alfa rebirth didn’t go to plan; though apparently this is now back on the cards.
Anyone remember the Alfa Giulia Coupe with the clever front axle? I wouldn’t be surprised to see that tech in the new GranTurismo.

4.7 in the Strad is a peach. Granted it could do with another 100 ponies but it ain’t slow. It’s about theatre and sound

Took a Cali out on test Friday, great engine but the DCT gearbox ruined it. Sure it’s fast but zero character and seamless shifts, it was more like an auto.

It’s not about performance figures, it’s about character.

That‘s the Maserati strap line and is why we are all here. Shame it dooms them to a low volume life.

I have taken your advice and am getting my GranTurismo under sealed as it is now a keeper. Eleven years old next week and I’m running it to twenty if it and I can cope.
Good to hear Bob, a wise move I feel

It’s never going to happen. 483hp, 10% gain which is decent but in the real world, it’s not dramatic to the way it drives so in my book not worth £1k so I won’t sell it.
I don’t agree with that. The instant throttle response and superior torque more than makes up for it. My car is a different beast after the ECU upgrade. Far far more responsive.
It is not about BHP at all, drivability is what matters in the real world.
It is exactly the same with my AV Engineering 360 ECU upgrade.. absolutely transformed the car.

AS Motorsport are working on a revised combo for Headers/ Sports Cats which dont exceed noise levels. And scavenge the gases thoroughly. The best advice is to take the car to them and let them sort it, with their tame ECU specialist. Its only an easy Ferry hop Harwich/ Hoek van Holland which I have done many times .

Interested to see how yours compares to mine. I have AV ECU, Larini Cats, Urutu X pipe, 487bhp. Whereabouts in UK are you?

Interested in hearing more about the AV ECU tweak? Is it just a remap?

I read somewhere a while ago that AV had stopped taking on new Maserati customers?
