Or learn how to jump on the brakes sharply when a variable speed limit suddenly changes to a lower speed.Just take it on chin mate and move on, we've all been there...
And keep your speed down!

Ref insurance ; A speed awareness course is not a punishment it’s suppose to be exactly what it states it is a awareness course . So technally your insurance should be cheaper it’s a form of training . You don’t have to be caught by a speed camera to go on a course you can just book to go on one of you chose . Funny how the insurance company’s don’t see it that way !!!!Some insurance companies ask if you've been on an awareness course but they cannot charge you anymore if yiu have been on one. Admiral ask but I did an awareness course this week and they told me it is illegal to charge you anymore if you have carried one out.
On the point of the incident I think you'll just have to pay up and take the points or course, I know things can get confusing but it's the same for all of us.
On the point of the middle lane driving I'm afraid there is NO excuse for that no matter what is on the inside/outisde lane. If you dont feel confident driving on the inside lane then pull away from the cones a little and straddle the white line a little but middle lane hoggers boil my urine. I cannot believe how bad the UK drivers have got at motorway driving. If you sit back and look at how our motorways work then the norm now is for the inside lane to be reasonably free of traffic thses days and the overtaking lane jammed full of traffic that is trying to get past the middle lane hoggers. End of rant.
It's a racket, legalised robbery, buy diesel they said a few years back and who is paying now? Don't trust the shower of sh1te now, not ever. I think the Country needs another Oliver Cromwell.
Whether Cromwell's methods (like Colonel Kurtz's) were justified in the context of his time is still a topic of debate.

On balance, I would prefer being fined for speeding than a return of Cromwellian solutions!
I take it you have never been caught speeding?Meh. It’s not like we don’t know the rules. Speeding is a calculated risk.
If you get caught then the anger should be directed against yourself for getting caught rather than the posted limits.
I see people every day lift off and coast approaching 30 limits, then brake once they are past the sign. These are usually the same people that brake for each and every corner or when they see oncoming traffic. As far as I’m aware the sign doesn’t give the start of a slowing zone you’re supposed to be at the limit when you pass it.
There's a statue of Oliver Cromwell in Warrington, I read last week when the queen came to Warrington in the 50s they moved it so as not to upset her,

I've been caught once when I was young & less wise at 17. I don't advocate speeding & fully support the concept of speed limits. In the main they are there for a reason. The problem for me is that reason seems to be changing. It used to be & should be for safety and is perveyed that way. Don't purvey it as for safety when it clearly isn't & is a stealth tax.
I agree 100% with 20mph limits near schools etc. & have been doing less than 30mph myself when I feel it is applicable for years prior to this. However I disagree with blanket 20mph limits for no good reason other than as a stealth tax.
It is all about honesty, clarity & transparency which are three words that seem be lacking or wholly missing from much of our recent & current govts vocabularies.
I'm not trying to speed here just trying to work out what speed I'm supposed to be doing & stick to it. I'd prefer 50 miles of 40 or 50 mph fixed with average speed cameras rather than lots of constant variations of 40/50/60/NSL. At least you can pop the cruise on at a fixed speed and have one less issue to worry about or concentrate on.

I was caught speeding twice in 4 months in the same car, along the same route, around 19 years ago. The first one I was charged with not braking before passing a 30 sign. Couldn't complain as he overlooked the speed along the M65 from Rishton to Colne, which was always below 100, and he'd followed me the whole way.
Why is there this thought that speed limits are a stealth tax? If they were then they wouldn't spend 1000's put up signage and other measures. There are some inconsistencies in speed limits, a whole bunch of roads around there that go 40/NSL/40 within a few hundred yards, why they don't make that 40 the whole way along I've no idea. It has happened on one road recently and does make more sense tbh. The time difference for the journey because of it would be under 20s regardless of how heavily you accelerated.
I've been in a car, doing 25-30, that hit a child that ran from between parked cars. I've also hit another child that ran out into the road as I was accelerating away from some lights. In both case the child rolled over the car, was shocked, bruised, but otherwise uninjured. To say that they left a lasting impression would understate things somewhat.
As a final comment perhaps it wouldn't be as bad if people stuck to the limit? The village I used to live in had a 20 limit outside the local school. Some how, despite no one being behind me when I entered it, I almost always had a queue of traffic behind me when I left it. Including some that lived in the adjacent roads. If people can't be trusted not to speed outside a school, why should they be surprised if government doesn't trust them to drive at an appropriate speed elsewhere?

Of course you are right, but with these new 'smart motorways' it wouldn't take much to include signage that DOES indicate a slowing zone. It would make roads safer by allowing drivers to be more proactive, having more time to plan. We already have the 300 yard markers for roundabouts and entering villages at 30, why not use the /// on smart motorway signs too.
I also see nothing smart about varying it up and down in the middle of a section that leads to congestion or works.
Tapering off the limit NLS, 60, 50, 40 and then tapering it back up to NSL makes sense, but putting it up and down in the middle is just stupid, and more likely to cause problems.
...and this is part of the problem with the mechanised crime detection. In your example, you were fined for 1 thing whilst another was overlooked. With the monetisation, I mean, mechanisation via speed cameras, you'd have likely had a stack of fines.
Inconsistencies in fixed speed limits is one thing, varying them almost at random on a road where the expectation is 70mph, and saying it's to improve safety and traffic flow is just stupidity, and does the opposite of what these things are supposed to achieve.
They should come up with a system to limit or even ban traffic from outside schools in the morning, lunch time and evening which would also have the benefit of getting kids more active...
