What a start...certainly has mixed it up a bit and the drivers really are having to drive the cars.......Well done Lewis.....Vettal out qualified by his Team mate Ricciardo....Vettal 13 - Ricciardo 2 ........ To the crowds delight.

What a start indeed Andy, great to see it back...shame the cars are ugly ducklings, but the racing should be mental...boy do they have some power :D

Really enjoyed it and certainly looks like it could be a good season with different drivers winning races or though those Mercedes already look like they are the ones to beat.......Look forward to tomorrows race......Drivers were really fighting to keep the cars on the track...Brilliant.

Say again Andy, I think I've gone deaf from the noise of the engines. :excellent:

I do miss the scream of the engines, but the performance is undeniable. Massive torque and limited rear down force, should make for some exiting racing.

Agree Miles...a bit weird without the noise but as you say should be pretty exciting this year and its needed...

Just managed to catch up with the qualifying. Very interesting and great to see the grid being mixed up a bit. I think the lack of downforce and the more torquey engines will challenge the drivers a lot more than in previous years. As Martin Brundle was saying in the commentary, the cars are how they should be this year with more power than grip. It's got the makings of a good season. Well done to Ricciardo - he's done a sterling job throughout so far. I wouldn't write Vettel off though, he's just not got the car right for him yet.

So the Red Bull isn't the dud everyone was writing it off as. Sadly this probably means finger-boy will be on top again.

Still, there are some new faces at the front and here's hoping it will be an interesting season.

Oh, but what a noise! Or rather, what noise? I thought the sound had failed on the tv.

Not sure the Red Bull have it all its own way though...And thats what is needed...Don't mind Red Bull being competitive as long as the other are as well and it looks like they are....

Next there will be electric engines :)

The cars sound like wrc cars, but we'll get used to..Really missed the f1, but i am wondering what ferrari will do this year.

Electric engines are the future and looking at the 918 and the McLaren thingy, why not? Electric motorbike racing exists with the TTX on the Isle of Man already and they have have completed a lap record in excess of 100mph! In fact it equals Mick Grant in 1975 on a Kawasaki triple.
Racing improves the breed and I'm all for it. But it would be bl**dy quiet! V12 or 12V?

2nd place getter under investigation for fuel flow irregularity, if upheld, disqualification

V12 every time. Again, the major problem is recharging time. The new TopGear magazine put the new Tesla S up against the Diesel Ghibli and it 'won' as it's faster accelerating and has a much more cutting edge interior. However, they didn't have a race to the North of Scotland and back or even a tour around Scotland and that's where electric cars fail miserably; refuelling. In a Ghibli it takes about 10 mins. In a Tesla it takes 15 hours every 275 miles. How long would it take to get to Modena and back? Absolute bollox. If you try and 'force charge' them it wrecks the batteries a lot quicker and they aren't cheap. IMO, electric cars are a dead end. Hydrogen fuel cells make a lot more sense if you want to go further than to the shops and back. Also, the TT reference is a bit misleading as the electric cycles only do 1 lap whereas real bike TTs are run over 4 or 5 laps. Range and recharging times will be the death knell of electric vehicles, apart from mobility scooters and milk floats.

Bottas was my drive of the day too. So nice to see Williams back with a car that looks like it's going to be competitive. On the face of it, this season could be a nod in the direction of the turbo era. If that's the case, bring it on. There was plenty of proper racing back then.

Decided to buy Sky F1 for the day on AppleTV so got up early to watch, then back to bed. Cracking race - where would Bottas have finished without his 5 place grid penalty and hitting the wall? Magic.

Great to see Magnussen doing well and good old Jenson quietly moving up from 11th to 4th. Ferrari disappointed (again). Surprised to see Ricciardo keeping 2nd place so much faster than all of the other Renault runners, most Mercedes runners and all Ferraris.

Then I got up again and learned that Red Bull has been disqualified for "consistently" exceeding fuel flow regs. Makes sense. Feed in more fuel than everyone else and suddenly you get more power. Sorry for Ricciardo but Red Bull needed a slap for this. Probably able to do it because of the 2 parade laps and the red flag.

As for the sound, quite like it - especially hearing wheel spin, and a nice gruff noise. Whistling turbos are futuristic. I remember the previous turbo era and no one complained about the sound then. Everyone in awe of the monster power. 1500bhp in quality trim & engines lasting 5 laps. And there were straight 4's!!!

It is good to see new names rattling the old school, roll on an interesting season.

Glad to see RBR have been disqualified , they have been bending the rules for the last few years and have always seemed to wriggle out of it, it is about time they are brought to account. As always it's not their fault it's the sensing equipment (the same is installed in all team cars) that is faulty.
