I stayed at Wayne's the first year I went - very nice and comfortable, with a lovely breakfast served each morning.

Watching you practising gynaecology on her with your cocktail-sausage fingers and a hose pipe was truly horrifying. I hope never to witness anything like it again and, FYI, it took me a long time to start eating beef burgers again without retching.

Was speaking to Mav about the race yesterday and he had a great idea. What about getting a gazebo or a small tent and putting it up at Arnage corner as it has good loos (for Le Mans) there, and all the burgers you can eat. It stops the need to constantly fight against the crowds to get a different view.

Next year I am considering missing the start and going in an hour later, nothing happens anyway.

We need to start thinking about the trip too. I have book Les Blot already and paid a £500 deposit, Mav has sorted out Le Bois. Also, I am holding Lion D'or in Bernay on the Wednesday night and I think I am going to keep it to the full 7 days as per last year and have a rest day on Thursday around the house to recover.

So that leaves us with Tuesday night, what do we all fancy?

Le Touquet was very good but we have been there.

We could do Montreuil Sur Mer again, but it can be a bit quiet. There is a hotel I got the card from in the square where we had drinks on the way back this year. It does not have loads of rooms but 8 twins and it might be enough.

Or we can explore something completely different.

Quite fancy not going Dover Calais this year but Portsmouth Le Havre or Cean. The LD Lines overnighter was ****, so I won't do that route again but Benny and I just went with Brittany and it was a massive boat with all night bars etc. Its a bit more expensive and chugs a bit but what you pay in ferry, you save in fuel.

That means we could go to Mayenne or anywhere in that North Eastern corner???

Ok, there is a high speed to Cherbroug from Portsmouth, based on a car and 2 passengers, its a 3hrs crossing, which is great, goes out at 9am on the Tuesday and gets in at 13.00 (£119) local time, returning on the Monday (£165) at 17.00 getting in at 19.00 local time.

Now, as time goes on, this price will rise, especially as it gets closer to Le Mans but at £284/£142 per person, its very reasonably and will save about £125 in fuel to go Dover/Calais.

Also, I am sure if I talk to them and get a group booking of 10 cars, I can get that price down to the £250 mark.

It will also knock 400 miles off the journey each way which will stop us from getting so knackered next year.

Stay in Cherbourg maybe Saint Vaast the first night, then down to Bernay for the second night

Or Bernay the first night (2hrs drive) then Mayenne the second (2hrs)
