I stopped for him, and Sean did as well. Mind you, he had the beer so it wasn't entirely selfless.

The Mintex radios have a 5W output which is technically illegal at public mobile radio is limited to 0.5W.
Using a radio inside a car will be limited as the car acts like a Faraday cage. An external antenna improves performance dramatically.

The great thing about the radios was that we could connect up and instantly broadcast messages like the carnage at Calais, stu and I linked up with Atholl and Lee and went to Dunkirk. Without them, we still be in that queue today.

We could also broadcast banter about the immigrants being close to hitting Hoyin's rev limiter...

Gawd. That is a day I won't forget!

Never had a policeman signal me to floor it.

We were the last people to get on the boat before Calais got shut down by the stone throwing immigrants. It was like a street battle out there.

Don't know if my copilot Dave was scared but I was sweating in the car.

Sean probably only stopped to see if Benny had any food on board that he could eat . He's like a grizzly bear . He turned up at our gite with 4 beers and then eat us out of house and home ha ha ...and took some beer home with him when he left .

...Oh and if my memory serves me correctly he came back in the morning for breakfast!!

Then I caught him hanging around the bins .

Our cars are more than "technically illigal" so i would worry about it .

Trouble is, he doesn't eat glass or we'd have saved a few bottle-bank runs. Mind you, he did eat everything else.

I was in MAFs car on way back and my my it got a little scary, we ventured off after not moving for over an hour and met up with others and was planning to go via Dunkirk until we headed back with help from the radios and got on no problem

True and there's no way a road side copper would ever find out without a RF power meter and how many of them carry one of those around. The radios are pretty good in terms of frequency accuracy and bandwidth (I know I tested mine at work!) so there's no real cause for concern.

Without radios nobody would know about the aitchhhhhhhh pipes.

Although whatsapp came in handy as well for those out of range of the radios providing the passenger has it.

As we are on the eve of the '1 month till the off' I thought I would update you all and more so the Newbies.

Yesterday I was asked by several when they would get all their information regarding the trips.

In previous year we have all just rocked up at the ferry port with our emailed over ferry booking and a pdf itinerary with the tickets handed out in the bar before the race.

This year you will be emailed info 1 week before the race but all tickets and details will be handed to lead drivers at the outbound ferry port.

This will consist of a printed programme with all the information and tickets in one pack including:

  1. Introduction
  2. History
  3. Itinerary
  4. Outbount Ferries
  5. Night 1 - Fougéres
  6. Night 2 - Saumur
  7. Gites
  8. Raceday
  9. Home bound Ferries
  10. Things to do
  11. Things to take
  12. Driving in France
  13. Contacts
  14. The ‘Hangover'
  15. Readers Wives

I am off to Rhodes on family holiday next Tuesday and will produce this programme from my sunbed!

See some of you tomorrow for the 'pub outing'

Just a heads up for any newbies, the regulars all run the Sanif Peage toll pass, its saves hours of queuing.

Not sure if we will be taking many Peage roads this year but its well worth the £5 to get one.

The cost of the tolls are no cheaper just saves the queuing as you can take the fast lane. If you have used the Tunnel recently you can get a discount with your booking ref too.

Just received my Sanftoll tag.

If only I had a car to put it on.

Serious de ja vous here!
