There was a 3200 on Pistonheads last week for £7500!

Surely if 3200GT are selling for as little as that more and more are going to get broken down for parts.

I think this is unbelievable considering the car is pretty unique. I can't think of any 4 seater GT cars which delivers on so many levels.

I love my car and can't see me ever parting with it so value isn't really a factor (or I would have sold it for £25k genuinely offered last August) but they are quickly becoming less financially viable of late.

The sad fact is that everyone I've taken out has said they'd buy one tomorrow if they could, so on that basis it appears we are the keepers of a very well kept secret.

* for anyone who thinks I was mad for turning down £25k, there isn't anything out there I'd rather have for that money, I've checked.

Problem is buying one is easy its the running of them that put many off and then you read buying guides and everyone speaks about reliability and running costs which puts the normal punters off pushing prices down as its a limited market and the 3200 has not shaken off the old Maserati reliability issues left over from the Biturbo era........Don't get me wrong it moved on from those days but not in the eyes of the public and the press.

Yes I agree, there is a lot of bad press which does seem a little over board to me, and almost condemns every car as a money pit. I'm sure there are a few bad cars out there but surely plenty of well maintained ones too. Hence the suggestion they're now a well kept secret.

I can appreciate costs can put people off but when you think the 3200gt originally cost in the region of £70k I would expect a few pricey items on the parts list.
I think the motoring press need to get in a good one and realise that the good stuff over rules the bad stuff.

If perception doesn't change the majority of these cars seem consigned to a very premature end, which is a real shame because in my experience they are simply great cars.

* the guy who offered to buy my car lives near me and if he propositions me again I'll be sure to direct him to the forum.

Back to car for sale, beware bumper and nose cone work.
My car just back from body shop after same job done on insurance ( not mine! The other driver), looking fantastic.
This lovely 40/75 went to local workshop of a trusted friend, so was in good hands. All who worked on it said what a total nightmare it was on the front end. Seems there is no cheap route to getting new nose job, it takes time AND parts.

I do have bent cowl if anyone needs one to practice a repair. ;)

you must also remember they cost £65,000 ish in 1999 era, putting that into a inflation calculator, makes it in today money : £96,200.00

so we are essentially running a £95,000 car, in which case running costs dont seem bad :p

this is the calcuator btw, i find it quite good! http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...tion-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html

Good point, its all relative.
I'd think running costs of any v8 GT or sports car wouldn't exactly be cheap, especially if they are used as they should be.
But on the up side, depreciation is factored out at the prices they are at the moment.

Owners,
Get on to the web sites and put in your own review of your car, Autocar etc., it will make a difference the more positives we have.
Cheers

Well lads not been on for a while as I'm very busy with the hotel but just to put my 2 pence worth in.

As some will know I did all the homework prior to getting my AC and in the end got what I would say was a peach of a car and paid top dollar for it. d In the first year 2000 miles it had a throttle pot & disc's all round under warranty.

When I made my mind up to move on and get my dream Ghibli Open Cup I set about getting everything sorted ready for sale. thats when it all came home to roost! I had to have the Throttle body done and then the dredded end float reared it's head...... and don't forget it is an AUTO! anyway still loved the car to bits and very sad to let her go but she has a new home and an owner who will not have the biggest issue to deal with if any. Over the three years and 5000 miles she cost a total of £6K in service tyres and repairs.

Would I do it again. You bet I would but not until I have an Open Cup in my garage.

£25k for a 3200?! Jesus christ - you could've sold it, had your choice of almost other 3200 for sale, and had an extra £10k in your pocket!
