lol, Thinking more on it though ...
if you filled the section left ...yeah .. that would work even better then you could use carbon fiber or fiberglass to make the plate and it would be as solid as the original 3200 section ..then you.......yeah.. then its just a and slot in slot out jobby ...hummm

Bootlid does not fit 100%.
The 3200 bootlid looks very handmade to be honest.
If you delete all the paint, you will find odd copper weldspots.
I think the 3200 bootlid was matched to the body where it was placed in.
The 4200 bootlid looks much more like a massproduction part.

It is allmost certain that you will have to do some bodywork on the 3200 bootlid to get it fit perfectly.
There is very little room for error, because the slightest mismatch is clearly visable at the 3200 rearend.

in that case you need a spare 4200 boot and just press out the light cluster section but then again if you are respraying the 3200 bootlid then the cost of shaping it a little will be negotiable.

the good part about this is it would be a totally reversible mod, and quite simply done by anyone.

obviously i dont have a 4200 otherwise i would be happy to sort a template for use but that i said if someone wants it i suppose we could sort out a car swap... at the very least if i could get hold of one for a couple hours i can make sure that it is a viable option.

Can someone with a 3200 confirm what is in the boot light sections; I'm guessing it's just the Fog on the right and reversing on the left under a red mask? If so with modern ultra bright LED's and a willing volunteer to loan these lenses it should be perfectly feasible to recreate a very thin version of these sections on a wrap around ribbon that could be stuck onto the 4200 boot lid, requiring just some wiring to be threaded through the boot lid and boot... Just a thought, developing Dave's idea. If this is doable it may as well be a presentation to one of the after market lighting manufacturer's to see what the minimum run is they would be looking for.

All with no permanent alterations needed...

i Dont think Type approval apply's to none standard units.. for a different car.. If you were planning on using it on a 3200 then it would been to be approved.

Ok starting at the Top.
Wiring easy
Plate for the conversion easy
getting a boot lid or modding a 4200 boot lid easy.
now the hard part is the lights themselves there not cheap. so i think for a start get an idea of how many actually want to do it and gauge what you think the general public who own 4200's if they would have it done aswell.
then we need to find a supply of the light cluster even if we can arrange for the light clusters to be made there is still a market with the 3200 owners who will be able to use them as a replacement part for there own car.
witch will give us the ability to offer just the clusters or a fully reversible conversion.

so to start with we need a test 4200. a Full set of lights to see if the conversion is fully viable.

Ok so we have a test car we need a set of lights just a quarter panel section , anyone have a spare one hanging around?
initially we'll just do a size up and check out. so only an hour or two needed with the car. and if it all checks out then we can push ahead!
