Cobra,
Mines a 3200 anyway, just thought you'd like to see what they look like in the dark, don't they look great! the brake and reversing lights are on the bootlid

David Askew as a few old 3200 rear quarters and bootlids knocking about so the bodywork side of things would'nt be a problem, getting the LED's to work without bringing the 4200 dash warning lights on might be fun
suppose a few resistors in the circuits might work
Common then who's going to be first.......

Brake lights aren't on the bootlid on a 3200. They're a second row of LEDs in the boomerangs from memory. The bootlid lights are rear fog and reversing.

i see i see yeah 3 resistors are needed but that is not an issue tbh. Once ive had change to get a my hands on Catmans 4200 for a couple hours ill be able to go into depth of what im thinking but it looks promising from where im sitting and should be a lot cheaper than the conversion kit or using the Full 3200 rear end parts. ive priced up a couple light clusters on ebay and its around 600-700 for the pair.

The boomerang conversion has already been carried out by a forummember: just scroll back to page 6 of this thread

The new avatar will tell.
B.t.w:
Resistor is only needed for the brakelights.

One other important thing: There is not enough space in the 4200 body for the 3200 rearlights.
You will need 3200 rear end parts to get it fitting.
There really is no "easy way".
It takes a lot work and is no easy job to be honest.

I will have to measure the two side by side, I must admit I thought the rear dimensions were the same, quarters and bootlid..??

Just demount the 4200 rearlight and do the same with the rearlights of a 3200GT.
You will see that the boomies will NEVER fit in the space for the 4200 light.
No way around bringing the rear 3200 corners into the 4200 body.

That is where the trouble starts.

ok had a thought about it. if it really needs to have the rear 3200 corners then i think we get a set and have some made up instead take a mold from them and have whole load made in fiberglass.

i have a suggestion to try and keep the prices down for this but i cant fund that sort of idea..

basicly we look at getting a damaged 3200 remove the parts we need then ether sell the rest on or repair it and sell on. then using the bits we have taken get molds made of the rear corners and might as well look at getting a mold of the boot aswell? if we do this as a group project we we have as many sections made up as needed and then some more for selling on as conversion packs? all we need to do is get someone to supply some lights if we use the ones from the 3200 then im sure we can get a place to made some plastic injection molds...

thoughts?

i dont mind taking a project on like this i have enough room on my drive to store the donner car and repair it or just sell it on in parts.

It looks like there is some misunderstanding;
The outer arches of the two lights are identical indeed.
It is the depth of the lights that differ a LOT!
That is the reason why you can not go around mounting the original rear 3200 corners, wich are much deeper.

Right yes misunderstanding i see what you are now saying.

can anyone post a picture of just the Rear Lamp from a 4200 and 3200 for me please?

never mind ive seen what i was looking for.

this takes us back to using a plate instead of the rear corner and getting lights made up.
i also see the problems you had boomerang and what you needed to do now. but if we get the lights made up, and use a plate into the rear of the 4200 it will remove the problems you had,

So as I understand it, the light pods that form part of the rear wings from the 3200 need fitting to the 4200 if you use the OEM lights.
Are these spot welded into position or part of the rear wing pressing?
I can see if they are part of the rear wing pressing or fully welded, even if the boomerang follows the same profile as the 4200 lights, its a lot of cutting of the donor 3200 rear wing, cutting of the 4200 rear wing, to mate the two together, as boomerang has stated.
I can also see that 10 years on, LED technology has moved on, and a less deep boomerang is possible. The problem being the cost again for a small production run funded by who? There isn't many owners who would commit I would imagine...look at the carbon fibre rear spoiler group buy, only 6 and I would have thought there would have been much more interest.
At the moment I feel it's a case of buying all the OEM bits, and what it takes, it takes in labour to fit.
Boomerang, how long did it take to fit the 3200 light pods into position?
