Chris Ward sale

It's like buying watch from Sports Direct, permanently "on sale"

A bit of a harsh comparison but I know what you mean. They are very well made & excellent value, I'm very happy with the two that I have, and when compared to the premium brands who wouldn't dream of having a sale, I think that the standard & build quality stack up well

They release new models / variants frequently and therefore usually have ends of lines on sale regularly - apart from the midnight blue face / orange second hand trident classic being worn today, all the ones I have bought (5 now) have been in the sales... I do like the regulator, though not as much as one they released years ago (before this SM website alerted me to the brand) and the recent 5 day manual C8.... will have to see if they fail to sell out and take their turn in the sales. The CHRW system appears to work well - make high quality watches with the same movements as lots of higher mid-price brands, do some tweaks to the movements for interesting variants like the jumping hour or regulators and price sensibly to sell.
Some only want watches with in-house movements, others those like the Wards with mass-produced ETA movements but a more heavily promoted and more expensive branding - like buying a *** car in Skoda, VW, Audi or even a Bentley skin. The Phaeton would have been a great buy if one was in the market for a W12 and didn't mind the VW branding.

ETA; Ooh, the VW group initials were censored!

I do like the look of some of them, I suppose it's more that the sales are so frequent it makes you wonder if you are paying over the odds when they are at full price, which might coincide with when you actually want to buy a watch.

No doubting that this sales tactic does work though, and I understand old stocks need to be run out.

My preferred way is to buy something from a dealer that has a list price and try and negotiate a good discount.

CW pieces are nice although I would still prefer Omega/Brietling when it comes to the upper tier watches.

Very different proposition, and very different prices, I feel. Having said that, my C8 is not that far off the quality of any of my high(er) end watches. The exception is my gold Rolex which actually feels quite cheap.

Never liked Rolex.......but yes Brietling I wouldn't mind and in a very different class to CW......I would never pay full price for a CW as just want for the sale that comes along every couple of months....As stated above.

I never really used to be into watches, but do like the CW stuff. I've a lovely auto Porsche Design job, wear a Torgoen as an everyday - similar I guess to the lower end CWs. No birthday present this year, as I'm due a very exclusive Bremont in November, am holding off for that.
