The only thing I have that's slim is a bank balance

Sometimes I wonder about those places. I had my Luminox from them, probably £200 under priced. My Christopher Ward about the same. My last Breitling was IRO £750 too cheap. God knows what the poor bloke who traded it got.
(NB: The Ward and Luminox were brand new, boxed, papers, retail tags the lot. I guess they may have been nicked from stock somewhere but given the volume of other stuff that goes through that branch, it seems they'd be an easy target for bill. They have a set of Omegas in, Olympic specials, James Bonds and just this morning an X33, which is way out of my budget. The Breitling I hope was not proceeds of theft, but it's a reputable Pawnbroker so I feel I've done my due dilligence)

Well done, anyway, Darren. I can see the attraction (being well endowed in the wrist department myself) ;)

I think it's credit card related, people buy stuff on credit ,trade it straight in for cash then spend months dodging bailiffs until they give up because they have nothing worth taking.

We've bought something from a retail store so I don't see how anything criminal could be pinned the buyer, I suppose worst case is if it were stolen it could be confiscated but then you'd have a case for a refund with the shop.

Buying stolen goods has always been a risk for 2nd hand shops but now the seller needs photo ID surely that's all they can do

I'm pretty sure CEX only pay into a bank account which is why many do store credit then sell the voucher.

Seems a logical assumption ref the credit cards. I'm not bothered by the legality. As you say, we've done our bit. Ethically on the other hand, I find it a bit greyer. Not giving the Breitling back though!

If you knew it was stolen and still bought it then I think your ethics would be in question but plenty of people are asset rich and cash poor so shops like cex and cash converters provide what they need , quick access to cash

Plus I think cc also pawn so they might have got your breitling for 50% of the sale price if it wasn't claimed

Back to watches

I just picked up a bargain in cash converters , a Casio MT-G S1000D radio controlled solar watch, it's massive but suits my equally massive wrist

It was £500 , they'd dropped it to £400, I offered £350 and they took it , like new with box and papers and a goldsmiths warranty card dated 07/15

How much for a Casio?
Always though of them as cheap plastic LCD watches!!

All perfectly valid points!

I have to confess that's not to my taste. The other thing I can't quite figure out is who genuinely needs those functions. I have no trouble at all that I don't need the functions of 99% of my watches, but they are at least 'premium' brands.

Hmm. Maybe I should stop there.

Talking of smart watches, has anyone tried the Tag Connect, it's Android but will work with the iPhone, looks really cool and I am very tempted.

Not that I was actually in the market, but I did look at the specs and was not hugely impressed. It's not even properly waterproof. If I had that kind of cash for a smart watch I'd have the B55 from Breitling.

*But* I'm not speaking from experience! :)

I do own one of the £30 ebay smart watches because the mobile phone signal is abysmal in the house so I leave it upstairs so the watch rings but that's as much as I'd spend on one

Too disposable
