Personally, I prefer to bleed the brakes using pressure from the reservoir. That way you are able to force as much fluid through the system, including the ABS module, as possible. Pushing the fluid through with a pump is far better than trying to draw the fluid out using a hand held pump (IMHO).

Whatever you do don't use the pedal- there's a real risk of damaging the master cylinder by pushing the piston in too far.

I usually use a pneumatic bleeder which is tons easier. But to be honest we were talking about bleeding the F1 system which if he hasn't bled the brakes before on any car I feel a little uncomfortable about.

loose actuator cable!

Must have knocked one while i was trying to access the nuts that hold the pump

Anyway all gears working and driving like a dream

ROFL.........seems like you have a few loose things there brother. Maybe you should go through the entire system and check to make sure nothing else is loose! It's great you have it worked out. What actuator connector are you referencing when you are saying it was loose? Are you speaking about one of the stainless steel wrapped lines or the Potentiometer connector at the front of the actuator?
