I'm ready to pull the trigger on the old shape QP GT S , how do you guys relate the Ghilbli S to this model ?

Not a fan of either. The one to go for is the GTS version of the QP V, but the pre-facelift model (i.e. 2007/8). Stick a Tubi exhaust on it and it's even better sounding than the 4.7

As much as I respect others opinions I'm sorry Ewan but in my humble opinion you cannot even come close to compare the 2007/08 GTS QP with the 2009-2012 sport gt s.

Surely the best is the later facelift sport GTS as it had a better box in it and is just a better reliable proposition. Plus it looked better and more modern. Top Gear had this one as the wedding car and had nothing but praise for it.

The Ghibli S is just as Peter says too much like a Lexus and doesn't have classic Maserati styling like the QPV.

I do sort of agree with the sentiments of the QP but would personally need to drive the Ghibli S before making a recommendation. What you also have to remember is Maserati release updated models on a 2 year cycle so we can expect to see a much improved model shortly

QP Sport GTS is regarded of the best QP you can buy so the GHibli would need to be bloody amazing to be a better buy....I have not driven a Ghibli so can not comment but depends what you are after...V8 or V6....I know which I would want and once you ehar the noise of that QP Sport GTS I really dont' think you would want the Ghibli...BUt if it's a true everyday drive you want the Ghibli fits the bill..........

I have driven a Ghibli S and a QP S, so both with the 410PS engine. They are good cars with epic mid range, tight handling and a nice sound albeit a terrible gear stick - hard to go from D to R to D without messing it up.

I prefer my 4.7 auto GranTurismo as it sounds better and I prefer linear power delivery. I presume that a 4.7 QP would be the same.

There is always something appealing having a current shape car but the Ghibli styling is not quite right (true of most modern cars so not a specific criticism) and the QPV is now looking a bit old. Perhaps the OP could post something on comparative pricing/age etc to help us advise?

I parked my black QP(V) 2007 (exec GT) alongside a new black Ghibli the other day
No brainer 1
The QP is much better looking but as I said in an older post I am warming more to the Ghibli
No brainer 2
The QP is a V8 petrol, the Ghibli was a diesel (aarrgghh)
So for me it is the QP but I am biased!

I guess the D was running as there is no badging on them to differentiate?

The other point is the £30k price differential new as it has to buy you something.

Yes the Ghibli was running, the owner seemed a nice guy and he let me sit in it etc (I reciprocated with mine)
It was quite a pleasant place to be
But then I got in mine again and started her up
and the smile comes back.

Pal of mine just got the standard V6 Petrol Ghibli and she is delighted with it...... Old Bloke down the road .. a serial GT owner.. both the 4.2 and the 4.7 now has the V6S Ghibli and speaks very highly of it....

But... I think everyones opinion of the QP V is that its a real gem... looks great from every angle and drives great...

Ghibli V6S .. looks pricey compared to a well specced late QPv...

The V8 a proven engine... V6 still a bit new.. but should be a winner..

First world problem ....very best of luck...Try them both and see how you feel...

I get the feeling you might get a very soft deal on a newish Ghibli tho.... might help make your mind up..

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice.
It would not be a truly everyday car but if I went for the Ghibli S I would obviously use it more. One of the many reasons I'm attracted to the QP GT S is it's practicality ( now a daddy ! ) coupled with it's undisputed style and character.
I think it's true to say I would get much better value on QP GT S ( in today's market place they range from £39999 to £59999)than a ghibli S which start at £59999 and go up to £77000.
I also think long term the QP will be more valuable and collectible, bear in mind I intend my purchase for a very long time if not forever.

The QP GT S I'm looking to purchase could be anywhere from 5 years old to 2 where as the Ghibli would be a 2014 model.
I need a practical 4 door saloon now that I'm a family guy but want one that I desire and that has character and style. I would not be using it every day and it would have very low annual mileage but when I do want a day out with the family or it's a special occasion it would be ideal as I could take all the family and their luggage too. I want a car that will feel special every time I drive it.
I was considering the Aston Martin rapide ( only 2 rear seats and very cramped ) or the maserati QP GT S but then thought about the ghibli.
I definitely find the QP GT S more desirable but the ghibli has grown on me a little, when I first saw I did not like it at all.
Is it a question of my heart ruling my head if I get the QP GT S ?
Anybody have any thoughts on the rapide in relation to QP GT S ?

Two thoughts:

-these are saloons. They will be worth £10k at ten+ years old, neither is an investment; and
-if you are buying to keep forever there is nothing better than getting the colour scheme etc fully to your tastes and knowing that your car has no history issues. £60k should get you a brand new Ghibli S with a few £k of spec.

Both are fine BTW. As for the Rapide, I see one near me occasionally and really like them.

I think the QP GT S is a bit different as there were so few made but I understand what you're saying.
Do you prefer the rapide to the QP GT S and what do you see as the pros and cons of each vehicle in relation to each other ?

You are, of course, quite right Bourekoue. There's no doubting that the later 4.7 QP GTS is technically better than the earlier 4.2 QP GTS, it's just that I prefer the original styling of the earlier car. Just as in the same way I like the early LP400 Countach over the later Anniversary Countach (as an example).

The Rapide is a lovely thing, but not as practical or reliable as the QP. The running costs of a V12 Aston are higher than those of a V8 Maserati also. Nice though. And the deprecation on the early cars seems to be levelling out now. A friend of mine bought a very nice one earlier this summer for about £80k which seemed very good value. He traded in his old DB9 for it, and instantly reported just how much more modern and advanced (and plain better) the Rapide was to drive. Certainly worth a close inspection and test drive.
