How does that work Matt? If it's a ex UK car in Ireland it can still be hpi'd and it's linked to UK hpi's. Cars that are in Ireland and you know the original plate, can just do a check to see if was a cat car before it left. I've heard of people sending them from Ireland to mainland Europe to lose the cat but not aware of how it could be done when residing in Ireland.

I don't know the ins and outs of it but I did hear about it going on a few years back.

I think if the car goes out of the UK (Ireland) then back in again, it got a new plate. Maybe the loophole has been shut down now and they pick it back up again on the chassis number???

I understand from Mike at the Maserati shed that the 3200 engine if properly looked after is a strong and long-lived engine and that 100k is only "middle age" whereas the 4200 engine wears out faster. So if it's all straight and well looked after £10 isnt so bad. No such thing as a cheap Maserati

I'd hope so, they always revert back to the same plate as far as I've known. Always pays to be diligent when checking histories of imports & exports though.

Having stripped a 4200 engine with oil/water pump failure at 90,000 miles far from being worn out and now sweet as a but.

Not much difference between most V8's, they should all last a while, but need to be well maintained..!! My old Jag had 168K when I sold it and pulled like a train, but always had the best oil I could get..!!

Yep maintenance is key on performance cars. Regular oil service and checks on the car are a must. Plus we are all OCD on here about out cars that there is always something we want to do improve on them which is why I maintain a forum car is the better proposition in the long run.

He is always harping on about that when I round there, basically he thinks a 4200 is a glorified Fiat and the 3200 is the last of the proper ones.

I just roll my eyes when he starts TBH

Going from my experiences, my 3200 engine went at 36k miles with end float and I have had 3 4200's and a 4.7 and never had any issue with them, so take from that what you will.

Personally I think MR favours 3200's so thats where he gets his opinion from...oh, and he will probably tell you that my 3200 never had end float, well I did, I heard that from the people who stripped the engine.

Mike R as nice as he is loves to play the "I know best" card slot of the time but that's the person who he is and some will find it pretty annoying but I like the guy. He's serviced mine and been helpful whenever I've had a problem.

I didn't think Auto's had anywhere near the same end float issues as the manual's..??
