When life starts to imitate art. You know that you're already part way down the rabbit hole.
When I saw the video, I immediately thought, Thick of It.
When I saw Boris at PMQs, I thought, Yes Minister.
....
It's not Life imitating Art, it is Art very brilliantly imitating Life. Both The Thick of It and Yes Minister are basically brilliantly-drawn documentaries of current reality not creative predictions of some sort of dystopian future.
There is indeed something horrible about the cynical manipulations and power-broking of politics (not just in Westminster but in companies, clubs, families and everywhere), but in some ways I find it more sinister that we are all supposed to pretend it is not like this, and to be 'outraged' when we 'discover' that it is. I am confident that many, many people make uncomfortable compromises, swear, avoid the whole truth, try to find good ways to present bad messages, get a bit ******, come up with outrageous hypotheticals, laugh at serous situations, misunderstand scientific advice, etc, etc quite a lot. But most of us don't end up on the telly with some inquisitor asking us if we are proud of ourselves for letting down the British people, and demanding that we lose our jobs.
