All they have to do is ask the Met officers on duty outside of No 10 (and maybe also inside) that evening what went on. If they didn’t know what was happening then they weren’t doing their job! Is there no way under UK law that an independent person can subpoena them and make them answer that question under oath?

I agree, it’s the cover up that will do the damage.

Meanwhile restrictions are back in place from Monday, so depressing.
There has to come a time when we bite the bullet and find a way of living with covid.

People seem to love this 'one rule for them' outrage, whether it is No10 pushing the boundaries of acceptable levels of cheese and wine, or Cummings sensibly and legally taking his wife and children to safety. It's just sanctimonious faux outrange, and I despise it for its negativity and weakness. Bah!

Now it's compounded by a sly video of a bunch of junior political spinners finding the humour in trying to spin a silly story into something that makes sense to the judgemental bores - I have been to hundreds of copywriting meetings where there have been jokes about serious issues, because not everyone is a po-faced harridan like Laura K.

When life starts to imitate art. You know that you're already part way down the rabbit hole.
When I saw the video, I immediately thought, Thick of It.
When I saw Boris at PMQs, I thought, Yes Minister.
....

It's not Life imitating Art, it is Art very brilliantly imitating Life. Both The Thick of It and Yes Minister are basically brilliantly-drawn documentaries of current reality not creative predictions of some sort of dystopian future.

There is indeed something horrible about the cynical manipulations and power-broking of politics (not just in Westminster but in companies, clubs, families and everywhere), but in some ways I find it more sinister that we are all supposed to pretend it is not like this, and to be 'outraged' when we 'discover' that it is. I am confident that many, many people make uncomfortable compromises, swear, avoid the whole truth, try to find good ways to present bad messages, get a bit ******, come up with outrageous hypotheticals, laugh at serous situations, misunderstand scientific advice, etc, etc quite a lot. But most of us don't end up on the telly with some inquisitor asking us if we are proud of ourselves for letting down the British people, and demanding that we lose our jobs.

Nicely put, sir. 'Even' Mrs. C was in high dudgeon. I then pointed out that had she not been ill with something very different last Christmas, we had already agreed to a family gather...... and she was still annoyed ;)

Lots of big numbers flying around this morning with precious little context or nuance. Still London looks lovely and I have to present a COVID pass to get to lunch in the RAF club, so making the most of it.

Imagine NOT KNOWING that there was about to be a party, with tons of free booze in your own home...

Update from No10
Following the claims earlier regarding Carrie Johnson giving birth to a Daughter this morning, the Prime Minister has issued this statement.
'I would like to make it clear that I was not aware that Carrie was having a baby, I categorically deny any involvement in this and I have ordered an inquiry into this matter'.

That’s got to be ********. If Boris had made a statement it be that baby didn’t exist.
