They are expensive. But so are lots of the nicer things things in life. Be that £200k for 5 years at Eton, £100k for a Maserati, £50k for a Patek watch or £10k for a Hermes handbag. Of course, less expensive options of all of the above are available for all those that don’t see the value in them.

Of course, it would be better if I looked cool whilst wearing them. But looking cool isn’t something that happens to me!

Sensible outlook. Managing expectations. Nicely put ;)

They do look rather lovely. I'm unlikely to spend that much, but my varifocals weren't much less than the gold ones. The black ones are nearly reasonable.

Enjoy, Ewan

They do look lovely but I have to have prescription lenses which limited th3 choice somewhat.

I am picking up my new varifocal lenses from boots today £414 just to replace the lease scratched when I dropped them and they skidded cross the drive !

Yeah. I don't even like mine. I wear them maybe one day a week :(

Totally agree Ewan.
Get it said to me often with how much I have spent on my Snap On tools surely a spanner is just a spanner your just paying for the name ?
No your paying for Quality not Rubbish and with eyewear it's the same.
My glasses last year were a €1100 but thankfully my Mutual paid a big chunk back here in France.

Quality stuff is always far more pleasant to use / handle IME. Watches are a case in point. I recall my wedding present was a watch from my wife. Nice enough Citizen, I thought it was great. Then at 5 years, another one. Then when I started making reasonable money, I scored a Tag from Canada. The difference in finish was remarkable. And so it continues with Tags, Breitlings and so on. Not that much about telling the time......

After all, if it was just about going from A-B we'd all be driving Kias.....

My Maui Jim sunglasses ended up north of 550 with prescription varifocals.. Glasses can be crazy

I like Maui Jims. Mine don't have prescriptions in them. Mrs C has a pair of prescription Ray Bans. Probably similar price

You’d look cooler without the Hermes handbag.

I used opticians direct to repalce my prescription lenses in my raybans, far more cost effective. Turnaround was less than a week.

The build quality is second to handmade Italian item.View attachment 74416

I've seen how Italians put their cars together so shouting about handmade Italian item is not selling it for me...... I'll get my coat ;) ...... :banplease:

You are probably right Ewan...As I don't have the disposable income to spend on £1000 sunglasses it would feel like it's a luxury that I can't understand maybe.......If I did though perhaps I would feel differently about them. They do look lovely though.

I have no issue with luxury items as long as you use them enough, I don't wear sunglasses that often even when it's sunny and I don't live in the South of France so what sun we have is limited but as with everything each to their own

I'm reading all this while looking at my Aldi trousers, TK Maxx T shirt and Sports Direct trainers and am feeling a little under-endowed in the clothing department.
As a new Maserati owner perhaps I need a makeover...

Try putting them all on as opposed to just looking at them? ;)

I got a very nice Massimo Dutti coat from TK Maxx last year.

excellent choice sir... I bought my first Maui Jim’s sunglasses 15 yrs ago while living in the US, and I’m now on my third pair (two pairs lost at sea, in two different instances)… I think they make some of the best lenses out there
